Hey Guys,

Ive recently bought windows seven and ive had an issue. When i get to the actual install when it says copying windows files it stays on 0% and the disc sounds like its stoping and starting like it cant read or something. Its not damaged or anything brand new.

Also i called up tech support they told me the code on the disc dosent match the product said i need a new copy.

I just anted to make sure this is right and all because its always good to get another opinion because sometimes they miss things.

Hello jack485, welcome to Seven Forums!

A word of advice ...

Use caution, we don't discuss, shall we say 'not so legal' things here and if that's where you are heading, don't.

If I'm off-base, my apologies.

If the key was packaged with the DIsk and you bought it at a major retailer, you are covered and can return it to the store to get it replaced if indeed it has a mismatched key. This is highly unlikely, however, and worth another call to MS Tech Support to have them help you with install. If they tell you it's not correct again, then I'd take it back to the store for another copy.

Are you trying to do an in-place Upgrade from VIsta? If so, back up your files and try booting the installer to see how a clean Custom install works. http://pcsupport.about.com/od/tipstricks/ht/bootcddvd.htm

If file copying stays at 0% give it awhile, then test your HD by running http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html and the HD maker's diag/repair full CD scan: Hard Drive Diagnostics Tools and Utilities (Storage) - TACKtech Corp..

Remove all but 2gb of RAM to try install, then test your RAM using memtest86 CD for 5-6 passes: Memtest86 - Download Page

Try swapping in another DVD drive to see if it works better. You can also extract the ISO image file off the DVD using ImgBurn, install UltraISO trial version, Open the ISO on File tab, then on Bootable tab select Write Image File to USB flash stick, Format, Write.
