Juddering when playing .mkv files

Can anyone offer any suggestions on how to cure juddering pictures when trying to play .mkv (high-def) files? I never actually had this problem with Vista 32bit, but on Windows 7 x64 I do! I have installed a number of codecs, including Sharks Codec Packs for Windows 7.

Have you tried the Settings application that is installed with Shark007's codec pack? I had the same issue with High Res (not Hig-Def) AVI files & changing the default playback setting sorted the problem right out.

I've had a gander through all those programs etc that are installed by Shark007's pack, and to be honest, I don't have a clue! lol.
Pity I can't get MCE to use the VideoLan Player as that plays everything perfectly!

Edit: Problem Solved! Or atleast solved as I'm now using MediaPortal instead! I did have the same juddering issue in MediaPortal, but by using a filter called 'MPC - Video Decoder', (fingers crossed) seems to have eliminated the juddering problem. I read on the forums that this makes MediaPortal use the pc hardware for the decoding. Perfect for me, as my hardware should be more than ample for the job. Well chuffed. Shame Windows 7 MCE can't sort it though.

Hi, I made a thread about pretty similar problem than yours UKgovsucks, but I think the origin of the problem is different to you and I. I've .avi and .mkv video files that use H264 and the quality is really not right. Video should be 720p HD and it looked really awesome when I played it on my 32bit XP (old setup) compared to current 64-bit Windows 7.

I tryed all the ways you guys mentioned in this thread but I'm still unable to get image quality fixed. I'm not really sure what you mean with juddering but my problem is basicly that video looks like MUCH lower resolution. I have installed Shark007 codec pack, MediaPortal, messed alot with configuration's and tryed to fix the whole issue but it remains the same.

Even due to these problem's I can play Fallout3 with High quality settings, actually Im just downloading Age of Conan 720p HQ cinematics trailer which is .wmw file to see if its working properly compared to .avi and .mkv files.

Ok I did some more testing with game cinematics, Mp4 format videos etc...
Theres simply lack of quality and it bothers me, seriously the resolution just aint right.

What res is your pc monitor set at mate? Also, what res is your TV set at? Just wondering whether you are playing a video that the res is not very high, and if your TV is set to say 1280 x 720 and it stretches the video, then the pic would get worse. Then again, you say it's okay on XP?? Mmmmmm...
