I just reinstalled my windows 7 64 again. Checking for the windows updates I’ve installed about 144 of those KB files, sorting out the good ones from the bad ones. I know from reading from other websites that there’ 2 KB files that are needed to get, back in march KB4490628 & KB4474419. I have the KB4474419 2019-3 one & the KB4474419 2019-8 one and now showing up again for KB4474419 2019-9, I’ll also get it again. I haven’t seen the KB4490628 one showing up at all for “Check for Windows Updates”.

Can Someone tell me if I still need to install this one now that were already in the month of September. I went and got the KB4490628 file from the Microsoft catalog site. Wondering if I still need to install it.

The KB4490628 servicing stack update is not needed anymore as it was superseded / replaced by the KB4516655 update. If somehow, someway, windows update does not offer it, download KB4516655 manually from the MS Update Catalog site and install it by itself (aka. standalone - do NOT install any other updates while installing KB4516655; if there any "pending" updates that require a reboot, stop right now & restart the computer and install the KB4516655 update by itself)

Oh good thanks for letting me know, Now after "Checking for updates" I only have 3 new ones showing up now. They are KB4514602, & KB4516065, & that KB4474419 09-2019 one again for Sept. month. These says their for Security and Quality Rollup for .Net framework, & Security Monthly Quality Rollup and the 3rd one KB4474419 2019-9 Security Update for windows 7 x64 Based Systems. I believe these 3 are safe & good ones to install right? I didn't see the KB4516655 one yet, did it get replaced by the KB4516065 one I see that showed up? Maybe I need to install these 3 files first then the Kb4516655 one will show up right after doing a "Check for updates again"?

KB4516065 is a security monthly rollup update
KB4516655 is a servicing stack update


these are TWO different types of updates (windows update may not list KB4516655 and may get silently downloaded & installed w/out your knowledge of it). check the View Installed Updates section from the Programs and Features control panel app (appwiz.cpl) to see if KB4516655 update is listed there. KB4516065 does NOT replace KB4516655 because they are two very different kinds of updates



and KB4514602 is a security rollup update for .NET 3.5 & .NET 4.x (4.5x, 4.6x, 4.7x & 4.8)

If not, I have put this together which has worked for a few members. The latest WU’s require that the following are installed FIRST . . .

KB4490628 [SSU]
KB4474419 [SHA-2]
KB4516655 [SSU]

If any of the above WU’s are NOT installed, then download the .msu files below in the same order to the desktop and install them =>

KB4490628 [.msu] => KB4490628 - Servicing stack update for Windows 7 SP1 - [12-Mar-2019].
KB4474419 [.msu] => KB4474419 SHA-2 code signing support update for Windows 7 SP1 - [10-Sep-2019].
KB4516655 [.msu] => KB4516655 [New] - Servicing stack update for Windows 7 SP1 - [10-Sep-2019].

Now run WU's again!

Thanks for replying back, I got those three window updates installed without any trouble after I installed that Kb4490628 one first. Od that windows didn't show it up after I checked for windows update in the first place.
Now after checking for windows Updates only 3 new ones are showing up 2-important, KB890830-Oct-2019 Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool & KB4519976-Oct.-2019 Security Monthly Quality Rollup.
1-optional is KB4524102-Oct.-2019 Security and Quality Rollup for .NET framework 3.5.1 to 4.8 .

Not sure about the KB4519976 & the KB4524102 ones, are these safe to install or should I wait awhile until someone says there ok or not.

If you usually install the Monthly Quality Rollup [as opposed to the Security-Only Update] then there shouldn't be any problem as you have the three updates installed [as per my previous post]!

I don't use the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool but perhaps a search on this forum will help with that!

I haven't heard of anybody having a problem with the .NET framework v3.5.1 to v4.8 update. If anything goes wrong you can either use a Restore Point or uninstall it using wusa. Just make sure that you install it last and that a Restore Point is created first!

That's incorrect.

Unlike previous Servicing Stack Updates, KB4490628 does not get replaced by later versions. It is unique in being the only version to bridge the gap between SHA-1 and SHA-2 code signing support. Later versions of the Servicing Stack Update, such as KB4516655, do not only not supersede KB4490628, but require KB4490628 installed. Beginning with KB4516655, Servicing Stack Updates have an earlier version for a prerequisite.
