Improvements and fixes

This security update includes improvements and fixes that were a part of update KB4525251 (released November 19, 2019) and addresses the following issues:

• Security updates to Windows Input and Composition, Windows Virtualization, Windows Kernel, Windows Peripherals, the Microsoft Scripting Engine, and Windows Server.

How to get this update

Before installing this update

Prerequisite:

You must install the updates listed below and restart your device before installing the latest Rollup. Installing these updates improves the reliability of the update process and mitigates potential issues while installing the Rollup and applying Microsoft security fixes.

• The March 12, 2019 servicing stack update (SSU) (KB4490628). To get the standalone package for this SSU, search for it in the Microsoft Update Catalog.
• The latest SHA-2 update (KB4474419) released September 10, 2019. If you are using Windows Update, the latest SHA-2 update will be offered to you automatically. For more information on SHA-2 updates, see 2019 SHA-2 Code Signing Support requirement for Windows and WSUS.

After installing the items above, Microsoft strongly recommends that you install the latest SSU (KB4531786). If you are using Windows Update, the latest SSU will be offered to you automatically. To get the standalone package for the latest SSU, search for it in the Microsoft Update Catalog.

No need to block the update. It only pops up once and can be dismissed, or just look for this registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\EOSNotify]
And set:
"DiscontinueEOS"=dword:00000001

That will stop it from popping up.

Here's a pic of the popup. There's a "Do not remind me again" button bottom left.



There's also two scheduled tasks named "EOSNotify" and "EOSNotify2" that look for that registry key and if it's set to DiscontinueEOS"=dword:00000001 the popup won't run. Or, the tasks can be manually deleted in task scheduler under the "Setup" folder.

It's a minor annoyance and nowhere near as bad as the dreaded GWX a few years ago. It's only a small file of about 400kb so isn't going to start downloading an upgrade to 10 or anything like that.

If anyone wants to manually add the registry key, the easiest way is to open a new text document and copy:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\EOSNotify]
"DiscontinueEOS"=dword:00000001

Save it as a .reg file (not a .txt file) and then click it to add it to the registry.

The KB4530692 security only update also includes the new EOL nag screen like the one found in the KB4530734 monthly rollup update.

I have to roll back a little ways to August i believe this is the last update I've installed installed a different mother board

KB4474419 SHA-2 Code Signing Support Update for Windows 7 - Aug. 13


Plus a net framework in August plus few others same month

I think there's now a prerequisite update that has to be installed that appeared or is that the first update I posted ?

Trying to install the KB KB4530734 update end up with a Fail Error 80073712.

uninstalled KB4490628 and KB4474419 and reinstalled them and KB4531786 and still no success in installing KB4530734. The three KB above are prerequisites that are all installed.
Very frustrating.

Any ideas appreciated.

Found severe corruption in system files with the SFC so going for a reinstall.

I have a better and bigger drive to install it on.

Downloaded all the updates from wsusoffline.com

so should be problem solved.

Hi Shawn, just letting you know that in your reg file you have the key under HKEY_CURRENT_USER but on my VMs I can only find that entry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. I don't know if it differs from system to system, so might be a good idea to add both locations to your reg file?
