Hi there,

I own an Acer Aspire 7551G Laptop.
Specs are:

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (Pre-Installed on Laptop at purchase)
Processor: AMD Phenom (tm) II N830 Triple-Core Processor 2.10 GHz
RAM: 4 GB
HDD: 500GB (142GB free)
Graphics: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650

Since purchase, every 2-10 minutes the laptop will freeze for 2-4 minutes during which in some instances I'll be able to move around with the mouse and switch tabs in chrome, but not much else, and in other cases it will be a complete freeze.
It's driven me to complete exasperation, please could somebody help me out?

* Is your computer under Warranty?

* Have you ever had a BSOD?

* Your problem may be caused by many things > RAM problems >graphics drivers > overclocking > heat issues > using more than one AntiVirus at the same time > etc etc.

Please run the below tests.

System File Check

Thanks for the reply.
I do have warranty, and a BSOD occured probably a month and a half ago but this started about 10 months ago, and I've since done disk cleanup and removed the logs.

Did system file check 3 times, came up with nothing all three times.

For event viewer, the most recent Errors were:

Event 1000, Application Error

and two

Error 75, SideBySide.

However, scrolling through, there are loads and loads of cases where there's about 10-20 errors in a row, all of them:

Event 100, Bonjour Service

Re Event ID 100 Bonjour Service

It appears that in some Windows PCs with iTunes, there can be a problem with the Bonjour Service that iTunes installs. If the Bonjour Service is disabled, the error goes away - however iTunes will cease to function until you enable the service again.

You might like to contact the Apple Support Forums re this issue.

* Your problem may be caused by many things > RAM problems >graphics drivers > overclocking > heat issues > using more than one AntiVirus at the same time > etc etc.

* Make sure all intake/exhausts vents are clean along with all fans.
Get some temp monitoring software for cpu, gpu.

* If overclocking, restore to original.

Some troubleshooting steps you might care to consider.

* Try a clean boot, or boot into safe mode.

Currently just have Norton Internet Security 2012, and am not overclocking.

Did Disk Cleanup and Checkdisk, which came up with nothing (as far as I am aware).
Will look into temp monitoring software, and I'll try clean booting.

A 'lockup' and/or 'unable to normally move the cursor' is usually caused by the utilization of most or all of your physical memory. Use Task Mgr to identify that process. When in Task Mgr, sort by CPU usage (do not stop processes, just identify the file/process that ties up the CPU.

I suspect that Norton is tying up your machine.

Regards,
Paul

How long have you had the computer?

If you've had problems from when you first bought it you should have some sort of redress against Acer, particularly if the computer is still under warranty.

Task Manager doesn't highlight anything when it happens, and as I said, it doesn't always completely freeze - I can switch between tabs on chrome and between different open programs on taskbar.
When it does happen, chrome will say "Waiting for cache" at the bottom, but it is not a chrome issue. It also happens when no browsers are open.
Every now and then during the freeze Norton will say "Host Process for Windows Service" is using a lot of memory, but this only comes up about 3% of the time.

I am a tad curious...
When did you start using Norton 2012?
From my reading there have been a few issues with this version & some people are reportedly rolling back to 2011.

Basically, had the laptop since February, with Norton 2011. Updated it to 2012 a couple of months ago by right clicking on icon in taskbar. The issue occured with both versions installed.
