Hey there - I've been dealing with this problem since last spring. My laptop was built with 4 gigs of ram in it, but with Windows 7 x32 bit it could only utilize 3. So i decided to upgrade to x64 bit but afterwards my computer started to get scorching hot and laggy when playing older games (Final Fantasy XI, League of Legends - games that aren't particularly demanding and played fine in 32 bit). I bought a fan for it which helps half of the time, but trying to play anything newer on it still makes them unplayable. I've tried a multitude of things, including updating the BIOS, checking for dust, trying to download new graphics drivers, downloading speedfan (which doesn't seem to do anything). I've been looking into getting "cool and quiet" drivers but I can't seem to find any or the one that I did get said that it was only for an Asus Laptop (which mine is... i get a similar message when tryng to download the latest drivers from Nvidia- not sure why)

Anyhoo some pertinent specs from my laptop:

Model: Asus N81Vg
OS: Windows 7 Home Ultimate x64 bit.
Graphics: Nvidia Geforce GT 120M.
Intel Core Duo CPU P8600 @2.40 Ghz
4 gigs of ram

I hope somebody can help me out - I can't run my computer like I used to and i'm seriously frustrated at this point that the computer that i bought to play games atleast decently can't really play anything well now.

Sorry, but I think I need more technical help. I already know its not a matter of dust in the vents, and I'm 100% sure it has to do with the fact that i upgraded from 32 to 64 bit but I'm not sure what.

If you go back to 32 bit OS does the problem exist still?

This will get you some relief but will not solve the problem.

Just as a wild guess, I'd say remove your present anti-virus software and use Microsoft Securty Essentials.

Have you gone back and re-installed the 32 bit OS?

Some systems that were built with a 32 bit OS as their native OS may not handle a change to a 64-bit OS properly, especially since 64 bit OSes require more processing power than a 32 bit OS.
