Solved Laptop Mouse Cursor Won't Move, MousePAD cursor does
1. Optical USB mouse won't move the cursor.
2. Mouse buttons function properly
3. Bought a new similar mouse, same problem, ruling out damaged mouse likelihood.
4. Have tried multiple USB slots. Have tried rebooting. Have tried uninstalling the driver and rebooting.
5. Saw somewhere to remove battery but I'm in a hotel and have no screwdriver to do so.
Really need to fix this as my shoulder is becoming inflamed reaching to the mousepad.
Help?

Have mercy, all. I know this isn't a mouse hardware issue...must be something solvable. Any help?
Gratefully,
Cham

Have a look in Device Manager, accessible via Control Panel & see if there are any yellow flash warnings showing for the mouse. Also check whether the mouse driver is showing as working properly.

No, but what an elegant solution to that guy's problem. He was trying to disable his touchpad. Best solution was to cover it with duct tape!

Wow. Just discovered what it was. I'm in a hotel. The wood desk has a smooth glass top. The optical mouse couldn't register what it needed to register to move the cursor.
