What's New

VMware Player 6.0.2 is a maintenance release that resolves some known issues. It is a free update for all VMware Player 6 users.
Resolved Issues

VMware Player 6.0.2 is a minor upgrade recommended for all users of VMware Player. This release includes the following improvements and resolved issues.

• KVM mode has been added to VMware Player.
• Improved compatibility and audio performance with certain USB audio and video devices.
• The VMware Tools can be properly updated when upgrading VMware Player to a newer version.
• The VMware Player UI now displays correctly when powering on an old hardware version.

Known Issues

Known issues from prior releases of VMware Player 6 also might apply to VMware Player 6.0.2.

Remember:

If you are running panda or avast! antivirus you will need to disable them for the update to install.

For panda, their is an additional step:


You must turn off the data shield protection found under panda cloud antivirus-click the 3 bubbles at the bottom right hand corner. Then click data shield. Uncheck enable data shield. Click ok. Proceed with the update or new install. Once finished, re-enable data shield protection. Reboot and enjoy. If you recieve any prompts from avast or panda after the reboot when launching vmware, and it states vmware in the message, tell avast or panda to allow the action.

Update also for Workstation 10.0.2.

If you are running Windows 8.1 / W8.1 update 1 GUESTS then the UNITY mode problem of the Store / other full screen Metro apps automatically starting and running full screen has been fixed. This occurs on some LINUX HOSTS and just stopping the store app doesn't do anything - it just re-starts. Problem fixed !!!

Note also though on Linux Hosts if you are using a lot of the nice PLASMA effects on the HOST - you might find in UNITY mode some programs don't display a drop down menu from the window top left corner - doesn't happen on every program and might just be dependent on the Desktop effects you are using on the Linux Host.

In any case it's a worthwhile FREE upgrade.
