Alright, I just updated my blog to include my latest setup guide...which is unfortunately for Ubuntu 9.04. I never got around to writing one for 9.10. However, I setup my 9.10 box using my guide for 9.04...so 95% of it is applicable and shouldn't be much of an issue.

I'm going to wait for Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx). For those who aren't aware, Ubuntu 10.04 is going to be an LTS (Long Term Support Release) meaning that you got 3 full years of support from the date of release for the desktop and 5 years for the server version.

Also, the Ubuntu 10.04 Beta 1 was just released. So, if you want to see what is coming down the pipe...give it a download (675MB) and try it out on a virtual machine. Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx) Beta 1

Tried Ubuntu 10.04 beta1. Its got some serious bugs. I will wait for the beta 2 now.

I haven't had a chance to install it myself, I just downloaded it. Yeah, it's the time for bugs. That's why I recommended firing it up in a virtual machine.

I started using Ubuntu 9.10 a few months ago and have been presently surprised at how simple it is in use. I haven't mastered command line input yet, but with the GUI so intuitive, I haven't really needed to.

I wouldn't swap Win7 for Ubuntu, but as yet, I have been unable to find anything which I can do on Win7 which I can't do with Ubuntu - apart from gaming obviously.

I'll upgrade to 10.4 when the final release becomes available.

OK I installed Ubuntu and installed all the updates. Restarted the computer. No desktop icons or taskbar. Just the blank wallpaper.

I know that in Windows, I can restart explorer.exe process by opening taskmgr. But when I pressed Alt+F2 and type gnome-panel , it gives a long techy error.
Also, I could not turn off my wifi. It was set to ON for some reason.
There are many other things that I noticed. Hence will wait for the beta2.

That is likely true for you. Though, for me, my WiFi button light is on even if the WiFi is off, heck, the light was on when I had no WiFi drivers installed for my card.

But for me, the wifi button is yellow when turned off and green when turned on.
