Noticed something odd when viewing a Web page locally on my computer. I was working on a page that describes code to render special characters, and that is when I noticed these discrepancies:

viewed from my computer:

< less than < &#174 trade mark Ž
> greater than >
& ampersand &
§ section §
© copyright Š

viewed from Web (after page upload):

< less than < &#174 trade mark ®
> greater than >
& ampersand &
§ section §
© copyright ©

Firefox 79.0 (32-bit) renders the local page copyright symbol -

Character Map Alt + 0169 - HTML '&copy' -> Alt + 0138

and trade mark symbol - Character Map 0147 -> 0142

WHEREAS Firefox 56.0.2 (64-bit) renders the page properly.

That is, the page views fine from the local folder in the older version of Firefox, whereas in the newer version of the browser, the page looks wrong until uploaded and viewed from the Web.

(I know Firefox 56 is old hat, but I always liked that version of the software better and still run it on one of my machines.)

Firefox Quantum began at version 57, and much changed. Add-ons, tabs, containers, etc.

Yea, I remember jumping through hoops to keep the older version of Firefox running. I liked (and still like) some of the plugins I was using, and the look and feel of the older browser.

Still, I am pretty sure I'd finished the part of the page where I'd made those edits since that milestone, and it seems odd to me I would have uploaded the resource with the glaring errors, or what would have looked like glaring errors, the copyright Š, and Ž for trade mark, without investigating what was going on.

I do tend to make mistakes and have to go back and make edits from time to time. I only very recently noticed the page wasn't rendering correctly FROM MY COMPUTER, and thought, wtf? When I checked the uploaded page (and the version on my other machine), everything looked fine.

Be Well, Snick, and thanks
