Logitech G9 mouse works intermitenttly with Win 7 Ultimate x64 bit

I'm using both the G15 keyboard and the G9 mouse but have none of the problems described here. There must be another program causing this problem, maybe an A/V software problem can't say for sure.

Why would an A/V software control how the drivers are allocated?

There is one thing I noticed right after I installed the G9 driver when I first open up the G9 control panel, it asked me if I wanted this device to be the default pointer device which I answered yes too.

Yes, it did it to me too and I also answered Yes.

You know, I am still looking at the Dual Boot as the culprit here as I don't believe that using Win 7 RTM is the cause of it.

Other than that it always starts with the settings I choose. Just be sure that you hit the apply-ok button after you edit the settings and they should stick.

Yes, I always do that, and it is another annoying thing that I have noticed, you must hit the Apply button first and then the Ok button for the changes to work.

Can you do me a favor, can you go to your Device Manager and tell me what driver (or drivers) you have for the Logitech G15.

Also, while you are at it, can you also check that you don't have 2 different drivers (Microsoft & Logitech) under "Mice and other pointing devices".

OH and can I assume that you are also using Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit?

I am, too, using a Logitech G9 mouse, awesome toy which I'll never depart unless it fails ;p)

I have a problem similar to yours but never at startup. When the computer completely goes to sleep for a long period of time and it woke up, the mouse seems to enter a "standard mouse" behavior. To fix this problem I unplug the usb receiver (which is connected into the charger) and reconnect de key and then the mouse behave as a G9 with setpoint's setup. This is a known problem you can read alot on in the logitech forum and for which there is no, at this time, known solution.

Don't know if I read correctly as I did in cross page but is your problem appears at boot up, wake up or both and could you please try to unplug your usb receiver and re-plug it to see what happens.

By the way, are you using the receiver in the charger or an other usb port?

Thanks Warluck, this is something I had not thought about and I will gladly try is the next time around.

Oh and, I am using the Logitech reciever in the charger.

Do you also have a G15 Keyboard or just a G9 mouse?

What setpoint version are you using? Can you check your "Mice and other pointing devices" in Device Manager to see if you also have a Microsoft Driver installed?

Are you using Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit? Sorry to be so noisy, I am just trying to get to the bottom of it.

and no, I am not using the G15 keyboard, only the mouse.

About the version, I am using the french version of the Setpoint software (but my search on Logitech's website leads me to think that this problem is known whatever the software language).

Control Center : 4.80.103
Driver : 4.82.11

And in the Device Manager, under Mice and other pointing devices, I only have the following : Logitech HID-compliant Cordless Mouse

And for the windows version I am using Windows 7 - Ultimate 64 bits.

In device manager under mice and other pointing devices it shows both the msoft drivers and the logitech ones.
Msoft > 6.1.7600.16385 <only a file version
logitech driver> 5.0.15.0 then the actual installation software shows 6.10.65.0

In driver details it shows all the logitech drivers to have Msoft certificates.
Under power management it's checked to "allow this device to wake the computer".

Under keyboard devices it shows that i'm using the driver> 6.1.7600.16385 < which is just an Msoft file version again. In reality it's the 3.04.143 software driver and shows up as 4.1.100.1332 when I look at the installation file.

and it's also set to "allow this device to wake the computer".

I can't help but to think that the problem has to do with when you are using Vista and the G9 without the logitech software installed. Maybe try installing the G9 software into the Vista installation and see if that changes anything.

Hmmmmm, this is a weird issue then... I'll see if this weekend I am up for a complete new & clean install... wife & Vista be dammed!

Oh and, you can bet I will come to post whether the problem went away or not... I did not use the pc yesterday so I can't say much today.

OK but do you have 1 instance of the driver or does it show 4 like mine does?

I can't help but to think that the problem has to do with when you are using Vista and the G9 without the logitech software installed. Maybe try installing the G9 software into the Vista installation and see if that changes anything.

Hmmmm, that may be another thing I need to try, I think I did try this and it gave me issues with asking me whether the Vista was the default user for the setpoint and then, whenever I went to Win 7, it asked me again.

I'm not sure, but when it's "phoning home" for updates, it is possible that your firewall could be preventing this action, which would cause the mouse to freeze up.

I don't have this enabled in my msconfig startup but Freezing is not a problem for me so I doubt this will help. I do appreciate the help though.

Warluck, your suggestion was sound, the one about "To fix this problem I unplug the usb receiver (which is connected into the charger) and reconnect de key and then the mouse behave as a G9 with setpoint's setup", at the time that I read that is because I also have a Wireless G7 mouse that comes with a charger and the USB pilot thumb, the G9 on the other hand is a wired cable and it plugs straight into a USB hub... do you perhaps have a G7 and confused it with a G9?

If not and you still have a G9, can you clarify what you meant please? Thanks

@chev65, I have installed my G9 on my Vista OS but, I can't use the Device Settings on it since, as soon as I do, it wants me to disable it from my Win 7 OS in order to use it on my Vista OS but, I did not uninstall it and as soon as I restarted into my Win 7, it did work as it should so I am hopeful that it will continue to do so.... time will tell though.

Well, that is all for now, hopefully this will take care of the problem.

I still would love to know why I have 4 std KB drivers under my Device Manager though... to bad the Logitech Forums suck at helping their members.

Darn... you are right,
your problem looks axactly as mine and exactly as many others that I confused the G9 to be the exact same I own. I actually have the G7 mouse with the charger and the receiver in it. I am sorry about the confusion and the false lead.

I still hope that we find a fix for this problem because it seems the be wide spread and there should be a fix for it. Anyway, I'll keep in touch with this thread and if anyone find a solution, please share.

I am sorry for misleading you guys, what I meant was... Straight through the Computer USB Port.

Well, none of the changes have done anything to fix the issue, I was on the Vista OS (wife had used the pc), restarted to my Win 7 and I manually had to start the mouse from the Logitech Device Settings.

Only thing I can think is that, somehow, the std microsoft driver that is also installed is somehow affecting my logitech driver... something like some times the logitech driver loads first and some other times the microsoft is able to load prior to the logitech.

Don't know if this trick could work with Windows 7 but can you try booting in Safe Mode, go in the device manager and manually remove any unwanted mouse drivers?

The problem there is that immediately after rebooting back to Win 7, it will scan for hardware changes and will load the Microsoft driver again... its like some other hardware that I use needs a mouse driver because I see no other reason why win 7 will load it if the Logitech is already there :shock:

Have a look on page 2 of this thread, near the end, Stormy pointed out a way to stop automatic drivers installation. You could give it a try if only as a workaround or even just to see if the problem is there, it may not be but I think it worth the try.

Dang, it just dawned on me what happened here. I had done that but now I remember what happened.

Yeah, I should try again, my problem was that I tried that and I ended up w/o my KB functionality because Logitech G15 software does not really bring a driver so I did a System Restore, hence, I put back the Microsoft drivers for both the Kb and the Mice.

After a while, you forget all the changes you have made :shock:

I realise this is extremely old but i was wondering if your problem was solved. Your last post is ambiguous.

It looks like removing the MS drivers fixed the issue for you, and they did not re-install at startup - is this right? Did you need to stop the auto-hardware detect at boot or was it fine without taking that step?

If it is solved, can you mark it as solved and just write what actually did it? Thanks.

It looks to me like he replaced the MS drivers to solve the problem, but maybe he'll clarify to be sure.

I've seen no problems with MS drivers for Logitech, only with their driver bloatware starting with Windows.
