Longer Boot Times correspond to low Cache Hit % in Readyboost log.

Hi, my boot times vary regardless of any change. The Windows Readyboost log, event id 1015, shows the value for Cache Hit Percentage. When this is low, for example 0.4, the boot time is almost double that of a 0.9 Cache Hit Percentage.

Does anyone know why this may be and what I can do to stabilise my Cache Hit Percentage?

Windows 7 64bit Lenovo L420 Laptop.

Maybe it is not keeping enough information between boots.
In performance monitor -> data collector sets -> startup event trace sessions -> readyboot are parameters that control how much information is traced, whether it is a circular buffer, etc. You might try tweaking some of those to higher value, like Buffer size, minimum buffers, etc. I don't know exactly how they are used but imagine they can impact cache efficiency.

Also, are you using a defragmenter other than windows defragmenter? If so I suppose that could undo the windows boot time optimization defrag.

Thanks for the input, tried your suggestions however there was no change in the Cache hit rate.

Yes, after more than five, the Cache hit % varies from 0.5 to 0.7 on average with an occasional 0.4 and 0.8. I have only achieved 0.956772725729227 once.
