Looking for translations of errors and GUI, without changing languange

Once in a while I'd like to have Dutch->English translation of either an error, or a Windows-panel.

This may enable me to do a proper search on Internet, or use the correct wording in support forums, or application support.

However, as I need it on ad-hoc basis, I donot want to entirely change the language-pack of Windows (if at all that would be possible) .

Have vainly been searching on Internet for a website or standalone tool, showing me the English translation of Dutch windows panels, remarks, errors, etc.

Example: when I rightclick on a file, the security part of the properties states: "Dit bestand is afkomstig van een andere computer...etc.etc." For some other purpose I'd like to have correct English wording of that remark.

But .. then again, maybe there is no such kind of translation site...

TIA

Not a solution per se but a quite practical workaround.

Your specs tell you have Ultimate so you are allowed to use and install language packs. Did you know that you can change the display language individually for each user account, i.e. when display language is changed it only affects that user account, other accounts remaining on which ever language they previously had?

An example. Here's my logon screen, showing my normal user account, Admin account in English and additional user account in other languages I occasionally need Finnish, Swedish and German:

Now if I for instance had a situation similar to what you described when using my Finnish account, an error message I might not understand, I could switch user, login to English account, repeat the action and see the error message in English.

An error occurs when logged in to Finnish account:

Switch user to English account, repeat the action and I get the same message in English:

2012-11-02_083918.png

You could at least try this, there are no disadvantages in installing language packs and changing display language on additional user accounts.

Kari, thank you for your input, truly appreciated. Frankly, this is new to me and sofar I never needed it. One indeed has to log-off and on again. I haven't tried it yet (busy with some other things, like backup), so I can't stop the process right now. That said, I wonder whether one has to close all sessions before log-off and on.

No, you do not need to log off to login to another user profile. Switch User is a Windows function that leaves everything intact on current profile allowing login to another profile.

For instance if my wife asks to check her emails using my computer, I just leave everything open, switch to her user account and let her do her things. If she then no longer needs PC or Internet, she logs out and I can login to my profile finding all apps running and docs open, as they were when we switched user. If she tells me she would like to come back in half an hour to check something more, she does not need to logout. Instead she, too, selects Switch User allowing me to go back to my account leaving her progs and apps open.

Check this tutorial: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/63025-ctrl-alt-del-start-menu-add-remove-switch-user.html

Thanks again. I had to figure this out indeed. Just 1 user was shown each time. Even applied the switch user reg., but then -ahum- saw that ' Guest' was disabled. Anyway, it is okay now. A bit of a complicated way to get the English wording for 'Windows-statements' :)
(Of course you can't help it, there is no other way).

Guess it shouldn't be to difficult to put it all on Internet: users to select which translation (e.g. from French to English) and then click on A for all that is starting with A (or free text search).

Anyway, many thanks again!
