Solved Lost the hidden icons arrow

My husband decided to open up my computer and proceeded to vacuum and blow out accumulated dust... I wasn't there to watch him, but something went awry
First I lost quick launch, but I got back .. now I just need to get the programs that launch at startup back behind the arrow that isn't there anymore.

I can't believe that just cleaning out the inside of the case could cause this type of a problem! Oh, BTW ... I have 4 fans that he used the compressed air on. He said they all spun.

type
notification

Then tick the items that you want.
They are the notifiication icons.

It should work, did you set up some to hide while in the notification area?
Some have to be set to only show notifications (set to hide)
If you set it up properly then there is corruption, if the arrow is not present.

Try the SFC and see what happens.

Just to be sure we are talking about the same thing. The arrow is on task bar, by the clock lower right.

We're talking about the same thing. SFC didn't find any problems. I don't know what happened by just cleaning the inside of the computer case

Anyway... I will to get back to you after my 8 hour download of SP1 RC. Dang slow DSL

Make sure it is set up to show the arrow.
It may be set to hide all

This may be a lame suggestion but have you tried a system restore.

Hi boohbah, no ... system restore, startup repair, SFC /scannow, nor chkdsk found any problems!
Apparently after removing SP1 Beta, the Hosts file was corrupt :shock:

I still have no clue as to why I don't have the little up arrow, hiding my Antivirus, SpywareGuard, and Network Magic. These are suppsed to be in the little box that I lost.

Run a sfc scan, Jacee or do a repair install.

And why, may I ask, do you need SP1 RC? :shock:

I've done a sfc scan and ran a startup repair, which said no problems found.

I'm Beta testing SP1 RC ... I did the same with Vista, Sp2 for Vista, MSE, Windows 7 and IE9.

Oh, OK. Maybe you can flush out the missing startup items- uncheck them in msconfig, reboot, then check them again, reboot. Also, same with the startup folder. You already know how to do it but heres the tut- methods 2 and 3.

I got it back! I unlocked the taskbar and the arrow up is now hiding my programs
