Solved Loud sound after resuming video/music?

So at work I keep headphones plugged in so I can listen to music/video's without bothering the people around me. I keep it pretty low, around an 8 on the volume scale. When I am watching video or listening to music it's normal. Then if I pause it, and resume it, the sound comes back extremely loud, but the volume stays the same according to the volume level. Anyone else experience this? Anything I'm doing wrong? Do I need to change it?

I know what I'm saying is semi unclear, so I hope you all know what I'm saying. In a nutshell, normal sound when I'm playing music or a video, but when I pause, then restart the video or music, the sound comes back extremely loud, even though the volume level stays the same. To fix it all I have to do is hit the volume buttons on the keyboard and it fixes it, but it'd be nice if it didn't happen at all.

What media player are you using? Try a different media player and see if it does it too.

Happens with everything. Netflix, Spotify, iTunes, the NCAA Tournament site(watching games online), Facebook, etc. Every time I try and play anything.

That's on-line apps. What happens if you just play a music file already on the PC?

As I stated above, everything is the same exact way! iTunes isn't an online app, it plays music stored on my computer, but it happens with VLC player, etc. Everything I ever play any kind of media on, online, offline, in the matrix, everything. Literally everything!

Refresh the sound. Go to the device manager and uninstall the sound (whatever it is, you didn't list that) but do not uninstall the driver. Then restart the PC and when Windows starts it will reinstall the sound. This fixes a lot of flakey problems, may you will get lucky and fix yours too.

The motherboard number you list, if that is the Service Tag number you should remove that. Dell considers that personal info.

Still the same issue, and I have just a normal Realtek High Definition Audio.

Does this do it with the speakers too? Also, what headset are you using? An analog that plugs into the headset jack or USB?
If you are using analog headset, there is nothing that I see in the Realtek HD Audio manager to restore volume level. If you are using any sound effects, loudness setting, etc in the Realtek HD Audio Manager, disable all of those to see if that changes anything.

I'm not sure if it happens with the speakers, I can try them maybe after work when everyone is away. I am just using a set of iPhone ear buds(the earbuds that you get with any iphone), and it's happened with 3 pairs now, they're plugged into the headphone jack on the computer. I'll have to try a USB audio device. I haven't done anything with the Realtek settings, so I'm hoping it's not that, but I suppose I can check just to clear the air. I'll report back as to whether it affects the speakers later.

Most earbuds are incompatible to some extent with a standard PC headphone output. This is due to the majority of phone earbuds having an extra contact, (or Two), to allow use of the microphone in the Earbuds for making calls. The Apple units at one time were different from the ones used on other phones so that Apple could patent the design and charge 3rd part developers for it's use.

You can purchase adaptors to use phone headsets on a PC

although it may be just as cheap to obtain a correct set

The iPhone connector is a "TRRS" connector rather than the standard "TRS" connector. Are you using a converter for the plug? Maybe something to do with the connection.

@Firebird, I have a few sets of decent headphones with mic for phone use and I had a similar issue without the adaptor, it's worthwhile with my £150 headphones but a reasonable earbut could probably be got for about the price of an adaptor (all adaptors degrade output quality IMHO)

Out of interest the Apple V Regular connectors

I think the regulatory bodies eventually made Apple revert to standard but there are all sorts of plugs and sockets still out in the field
