Solved Mac OS X Lion 'Resume' Feature in Windows?

Hi,

While looking at the list of new features for Mac OS X Lion, I saw a feature that really interested me. Its called 'Resume' Apple - OS X Lion - Over 250 new features. Read about all of them.. What it does is for example, while shutting down Mac OS X, it will pause everything, shut down, and when starting again, resume everything that was previously open. I know this is like Hibernate, except Hibernate still uses a little bit of power. Is there a way to add this feature to Windows?

Hibernate does not use any power. The computer writes its state and memory to disk and shuts down completely.

I think you are thinking of Suspend which leaves power to the ram and does not write to disk. That consumes some power.

(And yes windows does both and has forever )

Does that mean that Mac OS X Snow Leopard doesn't have hibernate?

Hibernate for all intents and purposes, is the same as off. It's 'Sleep' mode that uses power.

If this osx equivalent of hibernate is new - then they are a little late to the party...

Lol I didn't realize Mac OS X never had hibernate...

OS X does have Hibernate, called Safe Sleep. As a default, when a MacBook is put to sleep it stays so, consuming power, until the battery level drops under a certain level - and when the level is too low it goes into Safe Sleep. The behaviour can be altered to only Safe Sleep or only Sleep.

The Resume function of OS X Lion is the ability to shut down the computer and while powering up again, resuming whatever applications and documents you left open while powering down.

Resume shuts down the OS and powers off the computer. Hibernate doesn't shut down the OS.

Shuts down and then restarts all programs after an OS restart.... Interesting.

This actually sounds a little bit different than hibernate. Hibernate saves RAM to disk. Resume's feature sounds more like it saves only the user part of RAM to disk. I think this is useful especially when it comes to installing updates that requires a restart.
