MacBook Pro Vs. HP Envy

I already have the envy, you can see my specs. I want to know if it would be worth switching to a MacBook Pro. If I did, I would want windows 7 on it for sure. Is it worth it? I love windows 7, but I also love the compatibility that Apple makes with all its stuff. Apple makes decent hardware, HP seems like their machines are cheap and not well built. Any thoughts or ideas?

why do you think that hp makes cheap products? if you are comparing it to a mac price then you are making the wrong comparison

Find a local dealer and test-drive the MacBook for yourself for an hour or so. They really are beautiful machines. It will make you say "Let's do amazing!", heh.

Are you sure that the Mac will let you run Windows 7 like it would run on an HP computer? I say that because I have access to a Mac Pro 10.5 and it treats the user like a hacker in that all of the programs that were originally written for Windows have been 'caramelized' to keep the user from using all of the features that are available when they are run on a Windows computer.

As far as build quality is concerned I own both a HP Vista x86 laptop and a HP Win 7 x64 desktop and each of them is very solidly built.

i love my HP. i have had it for almost 3 yrs and it has had XP then Vista, now Windows 7 and has never let me down, I also run Ubuntu through VirtualBox. The battery has just recently died, but thats to be expected after this many years.

If you are going to run just Win 7 stay with the HP or similar PC.
MacBook was made to run apple software, it will run Windows, but not better than HP.
Your just throwing money away on a fancy case.

If you really are thinking about this , you should really be asking what is it you want to achieve - Windows is a more versatile and widely used OS, but Mac OS is also a very beautiful OS to use.

You must remember that the mac 'it just works' mantra is bandied about because Apple are hardware manufacturers. If you use only apple hardware, then naturally it will all work wonderfully well. However do remember that apple will also want you to use the man in the way THEY intend rather than the way YOU want.

As the poster above says, you need to test drive mac OS first. I would do this before paying through the nose for apple hardware -

either:

Go to insanelymac.com and research testing mac OS on your PC hardware with a view to buying a real mac.

or

ebay: get a first gen, intel mac mini - it won't set your world on fire, but you will have a cheap mac to play with and get a feel for the OS. You can mess about and try to live with it for a couple of months, and if you don't like it you'll still be able to sell the thing for the money you paid for it. - you won't do that after shelling out on a macbook pro.

If all you use is apple stuff and applications then I could not advise you against a MBP if that's the sort fo money you want to spend, however, you need to evaluate what you do use your machine for, never forgetting that Apple are hardware vendors forst and foremost. They will intentionally leave features out of one product with a view to making you buy another with those features.
