I have a magic mouse that I used to use with my laptop, I reinstalled windows (it was getting slow), and now when I try to pair my mouse I get an "Authentication Error".

What the heck is this and what can I do to get rid of this?

Hi GrayTheWolf, welcome to 7F! :)

What the heck is this?
In the simplest of terms it means, Your OS failed to see and/or recognize your mouse.

The first item to check:
Type/Copy/Paste: services.msc into the Run box, when the Services window opens check the Bluetooth Support Service.

  • If it is stopped, disabled or on Manual, right click on it, and select properties.
  • While on the General Tab click on the down arrow to the right of Startup Type, and change the type to Automatic.
  • Then down where it says Service Status, click on the Start Button.
  • Reboot your machine, and go through your usual routine to pair the mouse with it.

i had the same problem with my a4tech btmouse and did this:
when you click add device of your bluetooth software and see the mouth: before clicking on next "right click" on the mouse icon and choose properties, then click services on properties diologue box and wait for it to show you a service to choose and then click checkbox next to that service and click ok and have fun. your mouse is set ;)
