Malwarebytes 3.6.1 Premium "Free Trial" - End Trial - Revert to Free

I thought I was updating Malwarebytes so I could run a check and I missed the 'opt out' check box and ended up with Malwarebytes 3.6.1 Premium "Free Trial" version.

I saved information from a search in 2014 (techdows.com) that describes how to do this 4 years ago. Then there was a small box on the Malwarebytes dashboard menu just above the Scan button that read "End Free Trial." I guess that was seen as too easy and too well known by 2018 standards.

I did a Google search and all the hits that suggest how to 'revert to free' are detected by 'real time protection' and blocked. Catch 22!

What is my best path forward to the classic free version (no real time protection?) I have 5 days to sort this out.

thanks

Thanks, Snick,

I tried to view/hear the video tutorial. I could not turn the sound up loud enough.

I did catch one early point. Installing Revo Uninstaller is 'tricky' in that even 8 years ago one had to opt-out of just the sort of problem I'm having with Malwarebytes from Avast.

I decided to be cautious. I entered "Malwareb" in the Start search box and chose 'Uninstall Malwarebytes' and not Malwarebytes (the launch link.)

Windows reported that it was uninstalled.

For good measure I ran ZTreeWin on my Program Drive and set the file spec to "Malwareb" and found the 10 items in the attached image still remaining. At the top are 5 recent *.lnk files from this post, and the recent uninstall and install. All the files are small. The last 5 are clearly 'old orphan files.'

Is the right thing now to delete these using ZTreeWin?

Is there probably still garbage in the Registry. I'd prefer not to muck around there.

I will wait to reinstall (carefully) until I see if this gets any responses.

Thanks
baumgrenze
