March 2018 Windows security update – Expanding efforts to protect

...Sounds nasty Jeannie, what happened? The whole Spectre/Meltdown issue has been a bit of a mess these last couple months. I held off on the January update for a while before I installed it.

It slowed my computer way down and IE 11 and Firefox were almost unusable. I couldn't even do any tabbed browsing without crashing my internet connection. Restoring the image I made before downloading and installing that misbegotten abomination fixed the problem.

Ahhh the beauty of regular backups - an essential tool these days!

I waited at least 6 weeks before installing the January Spectre/Meltdown fixes. Did you have any firmware updates to install? Or just the Windows updates? I'm still waiting on a firmware update from Gigabyte for my Z97 board.... If they ever produce one!? I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but so far they've only gone as far back as X99 boards.

Yesterday I updated my windows 7 with the update KB4088875 without problems, but by mistake I installed the kb2952664 and later it gave me problems uninstalling it. So format my PC and now the March updates do not appear, only the February ones. Do you know if something happened that forced them to be removed or because they do not appear to download?

Only the stupid Windows update. ASUS apparently can't be bothered to come up with a firmware update for my current P9X79 WS. Heck, the last time I checked, the *&^%$#@! hadn't come up with one for the X99-E WS/USB 3.1 that's going into my next rig once I finish making the case for it (mutter, mutter, mumble, mumble ). Maybe I should sue them?

Some bloody update! When updates from M$ cause malware-like problems that they're supposed to stop, well I have no words, just frustration, and apprehension, so I've had no security updates since January? is that what you're saying?

EDIT: Today the rollup disappeared from the WU dialogue after I replaced the bad CPU with a new one, just the Malicious Software tool was left. History doesn't show the others, only the ones from January and February. Not going to worry about it.

OEMs/Board manufacturers really need to get their sh... stuff together when it comes to these important fixes. If Intel has patched all the way back to Sandybridge and even before, then the OEMs should patch that far back too.
