Media players get choppy when idle while connected to the internet

I have this really weird problem. When I watch a saved file on my computer using either vlc or wmp, the video starts framing after 10 minutes. But when I start moving my mouse or press any key on my keyboard, the problem goes away. It then gets choppy if there is no user input for the next 10 minutes. I'm assuming that this may have something to do when the computer being idle. Then I had a problem with my ISP and lost internet for a day and realized that the problem does not occur when the internet is down. Has anyone experienced this problem before? Im trying to see if I can find anything on the task scheduler but honestly I have no idea what I'm looking for when I open it up. Can anyone please help me?

What have you got your power settings set to?
What do you have running in Task Manager?

Well, it certainly seems to be that something is happening when you are online.
It's as if something is sapping your resources!
Have you run a full system virus scan or Malwarebytes [FREE] scan recently?

Hi Sir Paul! I didn't touch the power settings so it's still set to balanced. As for the task manager, there seems to be nothing unusual about it except for MsMpEng.exe and WmiPrvSE.exe. These two stands out to eat a lot of memory but not as much as the media player and I'm not really familiar with them. At first I thought it was indeed a memory problem so I added more RAM but it did not resolve the issue.

Yes sir. I constantly run Microsoft Security Essentials. I ran it last night too.

I didn't touch the power settings so it's still set to balanced.

You could set the power settings to High Performance and see if that makes a difference. If it doesn't you can always change them back. Here is a link that will show you how to change them: Power Plan Settings - Change

Have you got Windows Defender running?

I only say this because MsMpEng.exe is part of Windows Defender, the MS built-in Windows antivirus product. MsMpEng.exe is a core process of the software that scans downloaded files for spyware.

You haven't got another anti-virus installed as well have you?

Try running a full scan using Malwarebytes [FREE].

Malwarebytes did detect 12 threats and the problem was fixed after deleting the quarantined files. Thank you Sir Paul!

Sir Paul, Sorry I'm back. The problem seems to be back as well. I have ran the malwarebytes scan again and it doesn't detect any threats but once again any video that I watch slows down after exactly 10 minutes which seems to match the time set in idle mode of my computer. Also this occurs only when connected to the internet. Power settings are set to High performance. Is there anything else I need to check?
