Memory Speed Issue

Hi guys after installing some new RAM i checked CPU-Z to see if all was ok, and it doesn't seem to be.

I bought some Crucial Ballistix 8Gb 1866MHz, however is doesn't seem to be running at 1866 more like 667MHZ.

I have a Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3 and a AMD FX-4100

Is there way i can force the speed on the RAM to 1866?

Any input is greatly appreciated.

CPU-Z reports the clock frequency of the RAM. DDR (DDR2, DDR3) transfer data twice per clock tick, so CPU-Z reports 667MHz for DDR3-1333.

Most motherboards seem to run DDR3-1333 and up at DDR3-1333 by default. To get the higher frequency, you'd either need to set the BIOS to use XMP, or manually set the RAM frequency and timings.

I tried to change the RAM to stay at 1866 but it wouldn't boot, so i tried at 1600 and again it wouldnt boot. would there be a reason for this?

It looks to be running at 1600, as you can see in your cpuid pic to the far right the xmp profile. can you post picks of your BIOS.

Looking back at the CPU-Z listing, the part number it reports (BLT4G3D1608DT1TX0) is DDR3-1600. Crucial lists timings 8-8-8-24 for it, at 1.5V.

Is that correct? If so, you don't have DDR3-1866 RAM.

You should get the above settings if you select to use XMP. Alternately, set the frequency, timings, and voltage manually.

I suppose that you've got the DIMMs in the correct 2 slots for dual channel operation?

bobkn, nice catch checking the part number. I was curious what profile or profiles it showed for XMP in his BIOS, had I checked the part number it would have told me that.

BTW, do some ram kits have multiple xmp profiles, or is one the norm?

The screenshots you're showing are the SPD tabs which show what speeds and timings the ram can run at. You need the Memory tab to see what the ram is actually running.
