Microsoft increases OneDrive 2GB upload file size limit

Microsoft has increased the OneDrive file size upload limit from 2GB to an unspecified new maximum, a new report suggests today. Microsoft has also issued a statement confirming the change, but an official announcement has yet to take place.

"As we mentioned on our uservoice, we have started the work to increase the file size limit for all OneDrive accounts," a Microsoft spokesperson said. "We have started the process with a small number of customers and will continue to roll it out to our full customer base. We will have more to share on this update in the near future, stay tuned to the OneDrive blog."

Sure you could. It's only an issue if you distribute it for download by the public instead of just your personal use.

Sounds cooler than using torrents that will knock if your download speed if someone doesn't seed. I will try it

This could also be good for storing music, privately of course. I lost another HDD before I bought my laptop, and now that I'm slowly building up my collection again (which used to be huge), I'd love to be able to upload some essentials to OneDrive that I never want to loose again.

OneDrive is great for sharing files between your PC's. I use it all the time between my laptop and desktop when working on files, particularly school work or photos.

One thing I would caution against is placing sensitive information there though. While I trust the cloud, there's still certain information I'd wouldn't place there, passwords would be one.

I also wouldn't depend on it to be my complete backup solution as things can happen, and you may find yourself in a bind. Example - if something were to happen where you account got restricted, closed, or limited.

That said, OneDrive is a great feature and one of the few cloud services offering such a large amount of storage space for free.

People complain about a lot of things. Doesn't mean they're all true, or even belong to Microsoft. And, as I like to say... if I go to a hospital and see sick people, do I conclude all the world is sick?

Anyway there isn't a software, service, or hardware people haven't complaint about. Now this isn't to minimize the issue, if there is one, but to look at the greater whole.

Hmm. Good to know this. My largest personally-created files are OneNote packages, exceeding 2 GB. I keep them at home due to the upload limit. No reason to do that now.
