Microsoft removes Windows 7 SP1 build references, refuses to confirm RTM

Microsoft has removed references to the final SP1 build for Windows 7 from an official blog post.

The software giant confirmed the golden version of Service Pack 1 for Windows 7 on Friday in a Russian blog post. Microsoft officials edited the post late on Friday to remove references to 7601.17514.101119-1850 and confirmed that some details of the post were inaccurate. The post was updated with the following disclaimer:
“Microsoft Has Not Released SP1 to OEMs at this time, Though We Are on Track for a Q1 release, AS We Previously Announced. The Comments made in this blog entry included Some inaccuracies.”
Microsoft’s wording is vague and many are taking this as confirmation that the company has not signed off on Windows 7 SP1. Microsoft’s statement does not clarify whether SP1 is finished, it simply states it has not been shipped to OEMs yet. According to sources close to the matter, Microsoft has sent out internal announcements to mark the RTM of Windows 7 SP1. Russian site Wzor confirmed the RTM too and has leaked several versions of Windows 7 SP1 for various languages.

WHAT?! hahaha so all we have now is a non-RTM SP1 build?

That debate has actually been going on for a while now with Rafael Ravera being the first person (to my knowledge) to say it wasn't the RTM. Paul Thurrott later said the same thing.

The point is that canouna and SoLoR (the former having contact with Zuko, the person who leaks most of this stuff, and the later being one of the main contacts for Windows 7 leaks) saying that the build that was leaked was %100 without a doubt the RTM.

Notice that Microsoft only says that they haven't shipped to OEM's. The important thing to note is that they have not said that they haven't reached RTM, and they have not said that the build that was leaked wasn't the RTM.

As far as I'm concerned, I will take canouna and SoLoR's word over Rafael and Paul's any day of the week.

[/rant] ;)

I Love my PC!
Still trying to figure out what's the big rush to get SP1. From all accounts, it's not going to offer any major system changes to enhance user enjoyment or productivity but rather be a cumulative way to get all updates, hotfixes, etc.

I'll far prefer a ServicePack that rollin'-up all the updates + some little new effects than having hundreds of them...at least we also have all the named updates listed in their white paper. Some might not like if they do want remove an update that not suit their needs, but so far with windows 7, not so many of their updates could harm the system and private life.

But for those that have rollin' with Windows 7 Beta & RC it's another story...
