Missing Firefox Icon

Brand new laptop and suddenly my firefox icon in my taskbar, start menu and programs is missing. the only thing I did different was delete the shortcut of firefox off my desktop and empty the recycle and then pin it to my taskbar.

this is the error I get when in the firefox properties....

Did you delete the .exe or a shortcut of it?

i just deleted the shortcut from the desktop.

firefox is still working but the icon is missing from taskbar start menu and under programs

I suspect you pinned the shortcut instead of a link to the .exe, then you deleted the shortcut.

Try this:

Right click on the existing FireFox icon on the Taskbar and unpin it.
Click on Start, All Programs, Mozilla FireFox.
Right click on Mozilla FireFox and select Pin to Taskbar.

Now try it, see if it works.

the icon is gone from the start menu as well. Like when you look in the programs to find firefox. the icon is gone from there also. And the firefox Icon that was already pinned on the start menu is also missing. All I did was delete the shortcut on the desktop like I have other things.

Ok i pinned it to the task bar from the start/programs and the icon reappeared for the taskbar but it's still missing from the start menu and the programs

Great advice, Ztrucker. That was my first thought.

@janeydoll, have you updated or re-installed FF? If not, download it and re-install. I don't know which version you are running so I can't point you to the appropriate download until then.

Yeah the icon in the task bar will show up sometimes but only when i click "pin it" and then "unpin it" After i click and unclick it then the icon shows up but if i restart FF then the icon is gone again.

I just installed FF days ago on my brand new laptop. Do you think reinstalling it will fix it? Do I have to uninstall it first?

Does this help? its the troubleshoot info in my FF

You should be fine with a re-install. No need to uninstall it first but it won't hurt to do so - just don't delete the data when it asks if you want to. If, after an un-install, then a re-install, the issue reoccurs, we'll have to look at setting you up with a new profile. I hope we don't have to do that as there are a few steps involved if you want to save all of your bookmarks (it's simple, really).

so just click the download button on the FF website? Is it safe to NOT uninstall first. this is a brand new computer and i really don't want to mess anything up.

Yeah, it's safe to not uninstall - just do a re-install via the download. If you still have the issue we'll cover the uninstall, re-install and possible profile issues afterward. Hopefully, it won't be necessary.
