Hi David, if you run SFC /Scannow it will restore explorer.exe back to default except for the ownership (it wont restore the owner back to Trusted Installer) but that wont matter.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html

It will also remove any system patches (except UxStyle Core) and will also restore your start button back to default.

After this which hopefully will sort out your icon problem you can re apply your customizations.

You may want to look at this for applying unsigned themes, it runs as an independent Service & does not modify any system files;

Hi David ! :)

According to your first posts, all the icons are missing are generally stored in the installer folder(C:\Windows\Installer) . Once those are gone, there is no one easy way to get them back there , other than putting those manually (using programs like Resource Hacker).

As a lot of programs are missed there, it would be really troublesome to use the aforesaid technique . The best and easiest way to get things back is reinstalling the programs .

Sorry that it sounds a bit negative, but it is the easiest way.

David, I guess you know it, that a few programs like MS Office, Skype, Adobe Acrobat/Reader etc store their icons and installers/uninstallers in C:\Windows\Installer folder (You may have access to this location if you set hidden folders and Hidden OS files visible).

An aggressive Junk/registry cleaning program founds these things as junks..... and deletes it , and it is why such situations arise. Once these are missing, no fix like sfc/scannow, repair icon cache etc can bring it back there, coz they are not present at the system anymore.... and they are not a part of the basic windows system .

It is CCleaner which cleans the system with a proper emphasis on which is to be cleaned actually .... not to make the cleaning quantity larger . So shifting to Ccleaner will reduce the chance of further occurence of such mishaps .

And even such mishaps takes place, just restore the image backup you have created using http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...ge-backup.html , it will be fixed .

Hope it helps :)
