Yep it was really the deciding factor in RMA'ing the Q9550
I should of seen mid to low 30c not staying at 41c same as what the 212 evo showed

I used a Noctua NH-U12S in my last build mainly because I couldn't get a 212 EVO quickly. I was happy with the purchase even though it cost a bit more because it cools very well and is very quiet. Clearances are the thing to check (case and distance to DIMM slots).

Well not as good as I had hoped but at least the core temps are close to the same
This one actually looked new not a scar on it

Sometimes Intel cpu's don't indicate proper temps at the low end. Put a load on the on the cpu and see if the temps get closer to each other.
Intel use to calibrate their temp sensors to read more accurate at the high end because they aren't concerned about low end temps.

A lot better than 14c difference that was really bugging me :/

Even my E5200 was showing 38c most the time with the 212 evo on it

Here's the old ram
2GB DDR3 PC3-12800 Unbuffered NON-ECC 1.5V 256Meg x 64, CT25664BA160BA from Crucial.com

This is what Crucial says an upgrade would be
2GB DDR3 PC3-12800 Unbuffered NON-ECC 1.5V 256Meg x 64 upgrades for null null, [Ljava.lang.String;@57a157a1 from Crucial.com

After chatting with Crucial the ram I have is 1600Mhz so the 1333Mhz is a downgrade and not supported anyway so my old ram is good enough
If anything I could of gotten 1600Mhz G-Skill :/
It's as high of ram the board can take no matter what cpu is in it so I'm guessing

So a 1333mhz ram stick isn't compatible with Acer wg43m? That's weird, since my x3910 which has the same mobo has 2 samsung sticks 2x2gb ddr3 1333mhz PC3-10660 cl9 M378B5773DH0-CH9. Those run at dual channel at 667mhz each. (Despite the fact that official acer site claims that the max supported ram frequency is 1066mhz)
I tried upgrading it a bunch of kingston rams with same specs but all I got was the continuous beep. This mobo is a pain.

These boards are what they are = cheap oem junk really
Possibly it doesn't like being flipped right side up and prefers being upside down in the little mini case Acer put it in :roflmao:

Thank you. I agree. Back in 2009 when I bought it, it was a simpler time. No idea what a painful process it would be to find compatible upgrades.My consumer back then mind only focused on how cheap it was. But the old machine stuck with me till today with no problems and since I'm not depending on it anymore I figured I'd have fun upgrading(Cheaply),disassembling and learning from it. But I'm fortunate to have found someone who managed to upgrade it. So please bear with me for a couple of questions.
Did you need to reset the cmos to install new ram back then?
There's a used Q9650 which I can acquire relatively fast & cheap. Do you think it would be compatible? It's for 775lga sockets after all.

Nah. This mobo is just that weird. Also your cpu bus speed is also 1333mhz. I think there's a correlation between ram and cpu bus speed as well. Supposedly it should underclock anything higher. However in the bios I didn't find any frequency settings.

I agree. I made a similar comment re the recasing of my old Acer. Still it hasn't failed maybe because I gave it a decent PSU and well ventilated case. It is now all boxed up to be used as an absolute emergency backup PC. OEMs have to make some money on a low margin business. The only OEM PC I would buy would be a laptop/notebook.

Only choice is windows or apple :/
