Moved a disappearing file and now has a broken shortcut

I turned on my computer and all of my icons were missing as well as my folders. However, I found I could search for them on the home button and still find them, so I moved them back to their normal places and powered off. The next time I powered on, some of the icons had disappeared again, and a few files I had moved had broken shortcuts( when you click on it, it says this shortcut has been move or changed, would like to delete?). I can still search for the files and the documents they contain, but cannot access them. I have tried a system restore, but it as I figured it would did nothing. Please help!

First, please download, install and run malwarebytes.

Also, do a full virus scan.

Do the icons look strange? If so, you could rebuild your icon cache.

I did the virus scan and nothing turned up, i don't think this is virus related, because it occured right after an update. Also, I meant to include this in my original post: everything on my computer is now working fine and in its correct spot except 3 folders of documents and pictures. These 3 folders had broken shortcuts even before the system restore. To make things less confusing, here is a timeline: I turn on my computer after an update and everything is gone, but can be searched for and used, so I move them back to their normal spots and shut down. the next time I turn on the computer, some stuff is back out of order and the 3 files I mentioned have broken shortcuts and cannot be opened or accessed so I do a system restore which puts everything back to normal except those 3 files, which is where i am now. Thank yo for your help and time!

I have no idea, it was just an automatic update that was critical
