Solved MS Fax

Can anyone help with a MS Fax problem.
can not set up an account, MS Fax can't find the modem. When I try to set up an account and it searchs for the modem it returns "An error occurred, please try later or see your admin".
It has worked fine before. This is the first time I have tried using it for awhile. SP1 may have fubarred it.
The required services are running. The modem is just fine in the device tree. Modem diags work. I have unloaded and reloaded the software via Win programs and features.
It might be a security problem. I have looked in the security policy add in but I don't see anything relating to faxing.
I really hate to buy some third party fax software because I use it so seldom.

Have you tried reinstalling the drivers for the modem? That might help.

Just to be clear does this mean you uninstalled the drivers, then reinstalled them?

I Just want to be clear. Otherwise yeah it could be SP1 related as you said it worked fine before the update?

Clear Out

I deleted it out of the device tree. The rescanned for hardware changes. The scan for changes put it back. and I put the latest driver I had back into it. It's an
LSI PCI-SV92PP soft modem. The driver installed is LSI 2.2.98.0 dated 8/13/2009 signed WHQL

I noticed in my printer and devices panel I don't have a fax printer and I wasn't able to add one.

DL'd and Loaded 30 day free trial of "Essential Fax". It works like a pig a suckin'.

That pretty much points the finger at MS Fax software. I have had trouble with the MS fax software before. I leaning toward spending some bucks to get away from MS.

Might try to uninstall MS Fax and reinstall. Go to Control Panel, Programs, Turn of Windows Features. Fax is located under Print and Document Services.

Well that pretty much answers your question, especially since you now have SP1 installed.

Do you have an all-in-one printer (AIO) You might be able to install one through it?

I use a HP Photosmart B209a-m. It scans to paper copy or to computer files but has no fax capabilities. I don't know how I could get it to fax.

If it doesn't have a fax built in you're not going to get it to fax

No Modem

It has no modem. No modem, no connect to phone line, no fax.

I give up on MS. Like I said before this is not the first time it has caused a lot of digging to keep it working. I will probably buy some software shortly. If I only fax say six times a year and pay thirty dollars for some software, that five dollars a fax. Kind of steep I would think. But what I have been faxing I would pay five to keep it out of the snail mail.

Where I got fubared was my AIO can do faxes, but my machine doesn't have a fax modem.
Maybe we can switch?
