Hi
I took a screen shot of my desktop and pasted it in ms paint. Now when I wanted to save it, it gave me the following error.

Paint cannot save this file.
Save was interrupted, so your for has not been saved.

Earlier I have had no such issue. I have always taken screen shots and saved them in jgp format through ms paint.
And i am using the same drivers and screen resolution from day 1.

I have not installed any software or hardware in the near future. That i could suspect of causing this issue.

The only instance I don't get this error is of i save it as bmp.

I have done Sfc /scannow
And found no issue.
My screen resolution is 1280x960@80hz on 17 inch crt monitor.

Why?

What Antivirus software are you using?
Your system specs list "non".
Did you mean "none"?
(as in: you do not have any antivirus tool installed)

You might want to watch what happens during the file save using Process Monitor.

Yes I am not using any antivirus.
But I have scanned with free avg and found no viruses.
I also scanned with malware bytes anti malware no issue.
And spwyare search and destroy also found no issue.
I am also using usb disk security and it has not found any issue when inserting any usb.

Except antivirus I use all other softwares regularly and these are updated.
My windows is up to date as if now.
I have also-ran scandisk and found no issue

I am going to suggest that you install Microsoft Security Essentials as a light weight antivirus app. It can be set to limit the CPU usage to 10% during a scan. If you opt not to use any antivirus app, please change your System Specs to say "None" for the Antivirus field.

Let us know if you need help using Process Monitor and its filters.

I have not used process Monitor for this type of work. But will Google it.

But i don't know what should o look at and how to determine normal from abnormal and then based on that solve it.
Are you talking of sysinternals process Monitor?

I am trying to run it it but it is saying

Unable to extract x64 image. Run process Monitor from a writeable directory.

I have unchecked the read only checkbook on the parent directory in which the exe resides.

I also have used the dos command
Attrib - h - s /s /d
Still getting same result.

Also i have noted that when I am installing opera I get an issue of writable directory. Double clicking on the opera installer I get an error that cannot create a folder on z drive. The evidence no z drive in my system now. However easier I used ram disk of 2gb as a scratch area for the gns3 and opera cache and also windows virtual memory but later I reverted the settings in all the three places and also uninstalled the ramdisk. My ramdisk was assigned z drive.

Furthermore I also noted that I cannot open Microsoft Office picture manager. Which comes with office 2010. When i click it out does nothing. Locating is exe and double clicking I also same issue. It neither opens nor gives any problem. I have checked the security permissions and they all look good on the exe of picture manager.

Check Disk

Are you trying to write to an external HDD?

If so, run Check Disk on it (you may need to run it several times).

One of my external HDD keeps switching into "Read-only" mode (even though there is no such thing).
Check Disk always fails on the first two scan attempts, but succeeds on the third, stating that "no errors were found."

Once Check Disk completes the scan successfully, the HDD behaves normally.

If nothing else works, Check your environment variables. Right click on My Computer, click Advanced System Settings, and Click Environment Variables. Make sure both TMP and TEMP in both User and System Variables are set to drives and folders that exist. Change them and create folders as necessary. Paint needs these set right to create a temporary bitmap file so it can convert it to your target file format. I hope this works for you. I saw that your reboot fixed it, but in case someone else looking for answers finds this.
