MSE Windows 7 scan message

Hello

During a routine MSE scan on my Windows 7 laptop, I notice that message "Preliminary scan results show that malicious or potentially unwanted software might exist on your system. You can review detected items when the scan has completed." appears.

However, when the scan finishes, there is nothing in the History log to show what might have been the cause of the message.

Looking at some other websites such as https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/643015/indecisive-mse/, I find that KB4012215 might be responsible.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Thanks

Mr Morgan.

I've got KB4012215 installed and it hasn't caused any issues. However, that's not to say it isn't causing issues for you. Many Windows Updates in the past have caused many issues for many people. You could always try uninstalling it and see if the message disappears.

Another possibility is if you use a "cleaner" such as Iolo System Mechanic, CCleaner, AVG TuneUp, etc. Sometimes these cleaners remove necessary files from MSE and other anti-malware products resulting in messages like: your computer is unprotected; real time monitoring is off; malicious files have been found and so on. Please take a look at this previous Seven Forum thread. I've attempted to address this issue with another member.

Thanks for the reply.

I did run CCleaner and have since tried the scan again in MSE.

The message still appears but a scan by MalwareBytes has so far revealed nothing, and there is no unusual behaviour on the laptop.

We shall see.

Chances are your computer is fine. Did you uncheck MSE from CCleaner?
