Hi,
I am hoping you can help me. I share my laptop with my husband, and i have been receiving multiple BSOD to the point I can't load windows now.
The various errors I get are:
BAD_pool_caller
An attempt was made to write to read-only memory.
IRQL_not_less_or_equal

I have tried system restore, but all my restore points are gone. I am in the process of running the 'hard disk verify and repair'. But as I can't log in I can't provide the necessary files.

I have a Sony vaio vpcee25fg. The AC adapter looks like it needs replacing, but I am still getting these errors when not plugged in.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and I will try to provide as much info as I can.

Thanks

I managed to load the laptop enough to run and save the necessary files. As I was attempting to .zip them I got the BSOD again. Now attempting to retrieve them so I can post....fingers crossed.

I am seeing multiple errors there. The storage environment is failing blaming the storage controller, which is really old.
Code:
    Image name: amd_sata.sys
    Timestamp: Sat May 15 03:33:51 2010 (4BEDC8C7)
This driver is a part of AMD chipset. So try to update teh chipset driver, either from Sony or from AMD.

The wireless driver is too old, too.
Code:
    Image name: athrx.sys
    Timestamp: Sat Nov 07 02:26:02 2009 (4AF48D62)
Download and install https://www.atheros.cz/atheros-wireless-download.php?chipset=37&system=6

Also, Free up the startup. Windows does not need any other program to auto start with it, but the auto start programs often conflicts and causes various problems including BSODs.

  1. Click on the Start button
  2. Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
  3. Select the “Startup” tab.
  4. Deselect all items other than the antivirus and Apoint.exe.
  5. Apply > OK
  6. Accept then restart.
Report us for any further BSOD.

Hi, I have tried the above. The first install said it failed. Then I got a bsod. When I went back and tried again, it said I had the right driver. I also changed the startup menu. I am pretty sure I also updated the wireless driver. Sometimes I can only get so far before I get another bsod. Am currently trying to get the new dump files to attach, but it keeps crashing.. I'll keep trying. Thanks.

The newer crash dumps are not pointing to anything precisely.

Test your RAM modules for possible errors. Run memtest86+ for at least 8 consecutive passes.

If it start showing errors/red lines, stop testing. A single error is enough to determine that something is going bad there.

If it does not show any error, enable Driver Verifier to monitor the drivers. Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

   Information
Why Driver Verifier:
It puts a stress on the drivers, ans so it makes the unstable drivers crash. Hopefully the driver that crashes is recorded in the memory dump.

How Can we know that DV is enabled:
It will make the system bit of slow, laggy.

   Warning
Before enabling DV, make it sure that you have earlier System restore points made in your computer. You can check it easily by using CCleaner looking at Tools > System Restore.

If there is no points, make a System Restore Point manually before enabling DV.

   Tip

Let us know the results, with the subsequent crash dumps, if any.

Hi,
I have tried to run memtest several times. The test will get about just over halfway and then the computer reboots itself. During that time, no errors are shown.
What should I do now?
Cheers.

That is memory controller related issue. The memory controller of the hardware is failing. I would suggest you to take the laptop to a Sony Service Center.
