Please see screenshot. I've followed everything I've seen up here to restore it with no luck.
I've tried adding reg keys as per 'Customize Start Menu' Tutorial 265 where a user named 'Inskipp' had similar problem with his 'Pictures' option. I also tried enabling the group policy entry (disabling and then enabling, because it wasn't configured). I've tried adding the dword value 'Start_ShowMyMusic' in:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced .

Any other suggestions other than re-installing? That is not an option at this time.

Thanks for any help with this issue! :-)

P.S. Win7 Pro 32bit --
The 'Music' option does show up in right side of start menu and it will open to Libraries.
However, when I use the tweak to make it open to actual user folders, nothing happens when I click it.

Also, for some equally bizarre reason, the regfile* didn't get entered into the registry even tho it claimed it did.

* The regfile Brink submitted. I simply changed 'pictures' to 'music'. But it didn't show up in that key at all:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

Just saw Brink made up another regfile for Music. I'll try that one. Other than that, I'll rebuild profile.

Make a folder called "Music" in your Documents or Library, and put a shortcut in the Start Menu. Put all your music into that folder. You can put shortcuts to anything in the StartMenu, even often-used files. I have 2 folders and 1 single file in mine, besides the regular program shortcuts.

I deleted Libraries" long ago. Can you put your own folders in there?

Your jpeg in Post#1 didn't come up.

The bold Thread title informs an individual user that They have not read the post, since the most recent new post was added to the thread.

Back to original post subject ...

You can place any content you wish to see in your user special folders, [Documents, pictures, music, Video etc] in any folder you wish to set up, and then point the special folder to that location. This is particularly useful these days where many users will have an SSD or other fast drive [which are normally quite small], and another larger drive to hold their data or a separate system and Data partition.

What I suggest you do is to create a new folder for Music, in the expected place - Under Users, your UserName, folder and reactivate it to a special folder using Shawn's tutorial, this gets you back to where you should be.

If you have the issue mentioned above with limited C: drive space then you will find an extra tab in the properties in the right click menu for the special folders calles Location,

The options here allow you to choose an alternative location for the folder on a secondary drive or partition, thus giving more space for expansion. Even if you move the location of the content the special folders will remain and so applications which automatically save or look for files in the special folders will still work as expected.

There is also a secondary advantage to this method as if you have a disastrous system failure and have to reinstall your operating system, you will not loose the important data in your files

Thanks Barman! :)
The first thing I do on an install is move the location of all those personal folders to another partition.

To fix the problem I ended up having to perform a non destructive install. While this did fix the problem and also the 'Turn windows features on or off' window was empty, it still messed up a LOT of customization that was done.

I resorted to that drastic measure because I reasoned if those two problems were present, there may be other weirdness.

Thanks again everyone!

The only thing that make a special folder "special" is some lines of Text in the hidden file Desktop.Ini this sets the name, Icon etc and can become corrupted thus giving the issue seen here in your case.

I did mean to add this information in my first post, but forgot :o however I agree that your solution was more appropriate in your circumstances with multiple errors. am adding it here to help others who might arrive here in future

If it's just a single problem the standard .INI files are available for download from Shawn's tutorial Here ... User Folders - Restore Default Icon

The file has to be set as a hidden system file to work correctly, there are commands to achieve this in part 12 of the tutorial
