My computer drops the internet connection...

Right. Garp's suggestion did work, however, is it normal to have to disable a driver?

Thanks garp.

Had exactly the same problem and after searching about found the answer,it was a setting in my router-UPnP
I disabled that and have not had any network problems since.
This was on an Orange livebox router,so i hope it helps.

Can anyone actually break that down for me because it's all long weird words to me, haha? It seems to be a problem with everyone who has the exact same computer.

Purchased a Belkin 'N' USB wireless network adapter from Argos £34.99. Needed to download the latest driver etc... but disabled the built in 802.11 wirelsss adapter and everything seems to running smoothly for the past couple of days.

Not the perfect solution as we shouldnt have to buy any new kit, but its nice to finally have a connection without rebooting a million times and wanting to throw the computer out the window. :)

It's actually pretty much stopped for me recently, it's done it once this week but otherwise not at all in the past 2 weeks. I've probably just jinxed it, but I'm holding out hope.

In case your internet drops again.

It's actually pretty much stopped for me recently, it's done it once this week but otherwise not at all in the past 2 weeks. I've probably just jinxed it, but I'm holding out hope.

Sarah, disabling the driver you are not using will prevent the problem. For example, if I wanted to be connected to the internet via a wireless connection, I would have to enter the "Control Panel", enter "Device Manager", locate "Network Adapters", activate the drop down menu (double-clicking Network adapters), right-click on "NVIDIA nForce 10/100 Mbps Ethernet" and right-click disable, and vice-versa for using an ethernet cable.

Once you have disabled a driver it will remain disabled, so you will not have to disable it every time you use your PC.

I hope this helped you, if not feel free to ask me for help.

Regards,
Stefano

Sorted!!!!.... the new usb network adapter did not work.

Windows released an update on 24.11.09 which solved the problem.... Well, it solves the problem if u do a system restore after this date.

I have restored my system to factory settings, then freshly installed all windows updates. All problems have now been fixed.

It was some sort of USB driver problem, not working with windows 7. Connecting and syncing ipods also caused problems, but this has now been resolved by the update.

Just need to get a refund from argos for network adaptor, cancel the netguys callout... and burn down PC World for being useless!!!

That seems like a lot of hassle to do, I don't want to do a system update, especially as I haven't been having the problem in a while... if it gets worse I'll consider it but right now, it's fine. :) Thanks! I'm glad you sorted it.
