Thanks for your info and patience. The second oiling of the current card has helped a lot. In the three days, it has not made any noise and temps are low of 35C (down from 50C) to about 60C (down from 103C).
I've read enough reviews to now believe that the 1060 3G card is significantly better than the 1050 4G card, but I do have one concern -- length. The 1050 4G card is 5.7 inch long -- exactly the same as the current card. The 1060 3G single fan card is 6.8 inches long. I made a paper template and 6.8 inches is just longer than the first memory slot, i.e. the card would have to fit underneath that memory slot. I finally found a rotating picture on Newegg that made me believe that the 1060 is no higher above the PCI-E slot, and so it would fit underneath.
Is that OK? I.e. will the fact that the card is underneath the memory slot cause any problems or not ?
