need help deciding on a new graphics card!

Hi all,

So right now I have an Evga Nvida geforce 9600 gt (EVGA 512-P3-N861-AR GeForce 9600 GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card - Newegg.com) in my computer, but it is starting to get to the point where some games dont play too well. I have to play a lot of games on low settings and they often have low fps. So I need a new graphics card that compares to what the xbox one and ps4 have so I can play all these new games on higher settings. I dont know what to get. I was looking at this one, it seemed to have a good price (EVGA 02G-P4-2643-KR GeForce GT 640 2GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card - Newegg.com), but I dont know if it is much better than what I have.

What the cheapest and best option to play new games at higher settings?

If you can swing around $120-140 then you can step up to the GTX 750 Ti line of cards. They are super energy efficient, cool and quiet and are designed on the Maxwell architecture(which is what the GTX 8xx line will be built off of) and most importantly, designed for 1080p gaming.

I prefer Nvidia cards to AMD/ATI cards for various reasons but do you have a preference? AMD have some phenomenal cards in that price range right now if you don't mind the extra power/heat and having to deal with driver support. If you prefer Nvidia, then I would grab either a 750 Ti SC or 750 Ti FTW.

Heat isnt a an issue for amd cards, just dont buy reference and you'll be fine

Even non-reference AMD cards run hotter than any video card should.......and draw a ton of power.
