network between Windows 7rc & xp, i need help!

Hi my name is Ana and this is my problem: I have a Pc with windows 7rc (msi k9 neo f, 2 g of ram and an athlon 3600 x2) and another one with windows xp (Asus k8vx). I try to conect both of them by their on board ethernet. Windows 7 didn´t recognize my network (It´s settled to be a work´s network). In windows xp I ran the wizards but it didn´t work. I settled manually the ip´s and dns and it didn´t work either. In windows 7 I manually configured but same luck, and when I make the wizard it froze searching for hardware (It´s says that will take 90 seconds but it´s been more than 30 minutes and nothing). Please help
I´m from Argentina, so I expect that my english isn´t to bad for you.

First hi Ana and welcome to sevenforums

The way win 7 does networking is a little different than xp. I need a little bit more info abt your network to be able to help. Im assuming you have a cable modem and a router of some sort> Is that correct?

I don´t have a router, I have a pci ethernet and two ethernet on board.
