Solved New 1060 -- Which driver components are useful?

Getting ready to install an EVGA 1060 6GB to replace a 650Ti. I usually chose custom install and, best I recall, unchecked the 3D and vision components (maybe others). I'm going to DDU prior to this upgrade and wondered if I'd be missing out on any performance if I simply installed the driver only (Device Manager/[card]/Update driver) from the downloaded driver package? My comp is basically a 2160 workstation (office work, video streaming, occasional video editing) with NO gaming.

1. What you mean by DDU ?

2. In my opinion : If you go for a Device Manager installation & successfully make it, You would install all the basic things you need without bloating your pc. I prefer it over custom install of the full driver package.
If you feel that you need some extra things in future, you can simply proceed with the setup installer's custom install.



4. I appreciate your concern to just have only those things which you actually use. Graphical Options eat up a lot in pc resources. I often follow 5, 6, 7 & 28 deeply to free up resources on my pc.

DDU is a video driver uninstaller. I've used it in the past and it seems to be a bit more thorough than standard options.

In particular what I'm curious about is if Physx and 3D Vision have any benefit given my usage scenario. I'm assuming they're game specific therefore redundant?

Yes, that Windows Optimizer tutorial is invaluable for tweaking.

Just wanted to add a quick update.

I used the Device Manager option to install just the unpacked video driver for the new 1060 card and, sure enough, it also installed 3D Vision, Physx and HD Audio without prompt. Maybe I could have changed this behavior had I sourced just the display driver sub-folder as opposed to choosing the extracted parent driver folder. Anyhow, as my comp is dual-boot I found it more logical on the second to use custom install mode of the installer in order not to have to go back and uninstall not needed components.
