Hey guys,

Ordered a new XFX HD5850 Black edition which is being delivered tomorrow , for the nice sum of £111

Will be running it in crossfire with my current 5850.

Do I just plug it in and enable crossfire in the catalyst control center or will I need to install drivers for this card first?

Never ran 2 cards before so it's a bit new to me.

All advice welcome.

Cheers

Paul.

Hello there, Paul.

It shouldn't be a problem... Just plug it in, attach the Crossfire bridge for the cards, and then log on to windows, the CCC should recognize the crossfire and it'd give you the option to enable it.

Cheers!

In addition to the above about the only thing I would add is to uninstall the current driver before installing the new card, and then re-installing it once the new card is installed and detected by Windows.

Stormy, would you suggest running driver sweeper after uninstalling the current drivers just to be sure that there will be no problems? or uninstalling them via programs and features should be enough?

Just user the Catalyst Install Manager found in Programs and Features to uninstall, as it will remove all necessary.

Driver cleaning programs are a good way to break your video drivers to the point that a clean install of Windows is required (unless a good backup plan is in place) to repair the damage to get things to work properly again. One reason you won't find me recommending someone to use one.

I am so feckin pee'ed off right now.

The new card is DOA , its getting power , fan spinning , but the pc will not boot or even post bios with the new card in.

Put my old one in on its own , boots straight away.

New one on its own , nothing , just dead.

So now the company Aria who I bought it from are closed all weekend , then I will have to ring them monday then it will properly take weeks to sort out. They no longer have my new card in stock.

Wish I hadn't bothered now.

XFX is pretty decent about this kind of thing if you want to ring them.
