Solved New build spoiled by 24pin connector...

HI all.

I brought a few new pc parts that i planned to put together (my first time build from scratch).

Everything seemed to have gone to plan apart from one issue that has kind of spoiled my build. I was ready to re check and then turn on the system but it all stopped because Im having issues plugging the 24 pin into the motherboard.

I tried forcing it in until i felt that i don't want to apply more pressure (fingers hurt lol) so i stopped applying force. Now im taking a break from it.


The new parts i just recieved yesterday are:

Msi Z97 Gaming 5 Motherboard
Corsair h60
G skill ram upto 8 gb

The other parts are listed in my specs and i have have basically swapped the old p5nd motherboard for the msi listed above.

So yeah, i just can't seem to plug this connector in, and it seems that it all looks fine, no damages.

I was searching if anyone else had issue like this and i found this link. He seems to have same issue like mine.

Any suggestions would be great.

I don't really want to give the board back as i feel impatient to get this system up and running.

Another item i brought new is an i7 4790k cpu.

So im looking forward to this build but i dont know what to feel now after the 24 pin connector won't go in.

I have taken apart the system, but i left the h60 corsair sitting on top of the cpu because of the paste and i don't have any thermal paste.

One of our members—Layback Bear— suggested a while back to spray some silicone lube on a cloth and wipe it onto the plastic parts surrounding the pins of the 24 pin connector before plugging it in. Be careful not to get any onto the pins themselves. That may help to get the little bugger to go in more easily.

Seems to be a known issue,

24-pin ATX Power Cable will not clip on to motherboard but still provides power... Is this a problem? - ATX - Motherboards

My fingers are still recovering from the force. Its a nightmare. Just when everything was going good.

I didn't have any issues with evga 1200 p2 psu cables at all they all fit like a glove
Sometimes it pays off getting a sabertooth tough board
This thing has a steel plate behind the board super strong kind of heavy but the board does not flex

Yes I was thinking same thing.

I tried forcing the connector in again but it just does not fit in grrrr.

Maybe iI should give up.

I was amazed watching some assembly videos on just how much stuff people add to the mother board before they install it
Possibly it would go better not installed in the case and the board laying on a flat surface so you don't crack the board :/
You can get a 3D view of it as well to see how everything is lining up ?

If the glove doesn't fit you must acquit

Well brute force did work.

But i made an error and hooked up the wrong cable to the motherboard. But i have now corrected this and the system turns on.
