This morning I installed W7 build 6936 64 bit. Haven't tried 64 bit before. I was surprised that the SB X-Fi driver is loaded as I have never been able to get one from the Creative site. Also the Nvidia 7.15.11.7816 was installed. Will update that at some point.
Really haven't noticed much difference yet, except my wei scores for processor and ram went down from the 6956 x32 build. Don't know if that means anything.
It won't install my laser printer. That was automatic in the 6956 32 bit build, but was not in 6801, so maybe will be in the public beta. Have gone to the Okidata web site and they say they are working on a 64 bit Vista driver but that the XP x64 driver would work. Guess again. Tried compatibility, still no.
Also, in Computer management, if I click on disk management, it freezes up. Have to use task manager to close it. Have tried rebooting, but no help.
And the last thing, and this pertains to any new OS. I have a Dell, which means the mouse software came pre-installed. Does anyone know of a way to move the mouse software suite from Vista to W7 or maybe some generic software that will run a 4 button + wheel mouse. The generic MS mouse driver will only do 2 buttons. Hate to buy a new mouse if I don't have to. I have looked through the Drivers and Utilities CD and don't see anything related there. Have gone to the Dell support site and search for the software, but can only find the user help files.
Should probably start a thread at the dell forums, but thought I ask here first.
Still installing software, so haven't tried anything to see if it's any faster than 32, but since most of the software is 32 bit I don't expect too much of an increase.
I must say that other than the printer everything seems to be working pretty well and going pretty easy.
