Did you ever get a activation reminder or screen when you turned it on for the first time? because that is when you should be able to activate windows.

The installed Key id the default Key for Windows 7 Ultimate - and can NEVER be activated.
FOr what version and edition of Windows is the machine licensed? (according to the COA sticker which is almost certainly in the battery compartment)
