I'm getting a new pc in the next few weeks and will be formatting the pc, obviously removing the Windows 7 that's on it now and putting the original software back on it (Windows XP)

Can I then simply add my Windows 7 Pro disc onto my new pc and use my activation code again?

It will only be getting used for one pc!

Ya, as long as its on only one PC at a time. You may need to do a phone activation, but not necessarily.

There is no way you can have your retail Win7 activation taken away.

MS is only interested in making sure it'sinstalled on one PC at a time, so the activation is geared to determine that and then record the new hardware signature to which it's tied.

In hundreds of installs I've never had to speak with a MS agent, only had to do the robocall infrequently.

If you ever ran into an exceptional problem with activation, you'd want to call MS Customer Service who will determine the key's legitimacy and then open a Support Case to get it activated one way or another.
