so I swapped the power supply and case for my wife's computer and now there's no sound, needless to say she's not happy with me and I can't figgure out what's wrong.

comp: home build
MOBO: intel dg33tl
cpu: intel quad Q6600
ram: 4x2gig DDR2
GPU: Nvidia gtx 55ti

Issue:
"no audio device installed"
previously had unknown devices and difficulty retrieving and installing audio drivers

actions taken:
-updated/installed drivers... more times than I can count, also installed slim drivers to help ensure everything was done

-double checked wiring.. I'm still a relative novice at this so it's still a possibility, but everything except my speakers/headphones not showing up is good.

-tried both front and back audio ports

-checked services, power, audio and audio endpoint builder all started and set to automatic

notes:

-everything on/in the computer was the same post/prior to the issue except, case, power supply and CPU heatsink, and all worked appropriately prior to change.

Re-double check the board's connections. With all of the moving around you may have knocked something loose/off. Reseat all connections and RAM sticks.

Go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\DeviceManager and look at what has a yellow triangle on it. Double click the name then in the resulting window click Uninstall and Delete Drivers. Reboot, Windows Update should load proper drivers. Slim Drivers can give wrong info and drivers.

One more thing to try is go to the support site for the board and try the Audio drivers from there. I may be wrongly assuming you have on-board audio? If no go to the Audio device's supports site for drivers.

Double checked connections, her front fan led is flashing like it's the hdd light and the hdd light isn't working(it has flashed so the bulb's fine but won't flash for hdd for some reason.. according to chart on the mobo it's in the right spot). Problem there is they're in the labeled spots on the mobo. It's been like that since I switched cases, I just left front fan unplugged. All other fans work properly and temps are fine.

Be that as it may. I made sure everything was in the right spit and seated properly. Disabled and enabled bios audio and reinstalled all sound drivers. I even tried just laving front panel audio unplugged to no avail.

The audio connector should be the one labeled "B" in the snip. It looks like several other headers but is keyed so it can only be placed in one header in the correct position. The lead from the front audio may have two connectors on it, use the one labeled HD Audio.

In "E" it shows where the HDD LED and Power LED are connected. Note they have a + and a -, this is important for these two connections. LEDs will only light if current flows in the right way. Generally the connectors are labeled as to what they are, or you can trace them to what LED it's for.
The connectors will have two colored wires, black is normally the "-" and any color will be the "+".

The fan LED should not flash at all, where is the fan connected?
