Solved No Wifi or Volume icon in Tray?

May I ask if you tried clicking on the blue link to "Turn System Icons on or off?" at the top? What resulted?

That was only a title, if you were to click on it, it would do nothing.

There should be no Admin Group Policy settings if you are running as Admin unless someone made them.

This could mean the OEM has made this setting to favor some crapware they preinstalled on WIn7, or malware changed the setting.

What do you think David? I've not seen this before.

I'm guessing it's not an OEM setting because in the OP the problem started about a week ago.

Maybe some legitimate program JetsonB installed around that time did this for whatever reason.

It certainly never hurts do a thorough scan for Malware whenever something looks suspicious.
Good idea Greg, thinking of the possibility!

You got me curious so I logged in with my Admin account so I could run the Group Policy Editor.
I normally use a Standard (Limited) account.

All the settings mentioned in the article and all settings in the Administrative Templates I looked are set to "Not Configured".

Actually, I just remembered I bought a new network adapter around the time, and installed their drivers on my laptop to test it, before I put it in my desktop machine, it may have been the cause. I'll run MBAM and MSE full scans and check for malware/viruses.

Thanks everyone for all your help. :)

**EDIT: When I checked my Group Policy, it was the same, but the registry part of the article you mentioned, the no volume and no network values were there, when I removed them, it resolved the issue.
