Im a little behind on this new Windows 7 monthly updating issue.

I did not install the October Monthly Rollup KB3185330 so my latest update superceded this with providing the November Monthly Rollup KB3197868 in early November which as I understand the process, was correct. I did not yet install that one either.

Being that the December Rollup is due out tomorrow, I was going to install the above November Rollup.
But when I run the Windows Update it gives me the October Monthly Rollup KB3185330.

Has MS withdrawn the November Monthly Rollup KB3197868 as I am sure it was there yesterday.

Hi:

3197868 *was* pulled a few days after Patch Tuesday last month.
But it was re-issued on November 23, apparently "fixed".
(I'll see if I can dig up the articles about it, but I quite sure of it.)

EDIT: HERE is the link (scroll down to the middle of the page to see that it was reissued).

Installed fine on both my Win7 boxes.
No trouble reports here, either.

YMMV, but probably OK to install.
OR, you could take just the "security" bits, KB3197867.

(If you manually install 3197867, WU will probably continue to offer you KB3197868. If that happens just hide it.)

MM

Maybe the October one needs to be installed before the November one, so when you have opted to install the November one first it has detected that the October one is absent so it elected to run that one first.

This is just a thought that might help explain your problem. :)

Noticed that when reviewing MS info regarding KB3197868 later in the day that it now shows that this KB was revised December 13 due to the revised way the Security only updates were going to be handled. However this showed up yesterday on December 12 and so far today December 13, I still cannot get this KB revised or not via Windows Update. And today should be the release of the December Quality rollup which should include updates from October, November, and new for December - correct?.
Guess I'll wait and see what comes down today!

Note to Ranger4 - as I understand this new update process, each subsequent Monthly Quality Rollup is suppose to be cumulative of all previous month's quality updates thus basically "free standing" with no requirement that a prior month's quality rollup was installed.
Exception is the Security only rollup which does not cumulate month to month (except within the Monthly Quality Rollup) Whewww!

Hi,

Yes, that's about it.

TMALSS, it seems that they have now made it easier for users to install the "Security Only" rollups, without those being tied to the "Security + Quality" rollups.
(This was really targeted more to Enterprise, but it does seem to help us home users, too.)

If you're a "visual" person, the "pictures HERE -- taken from the TechNet article -- speak 1000 words".

FWIW, many of us wait at least a couple of days before installing Patch Tuesday updates.
Especially now that we cannot pick or choose individual patches from the "rollups", it's probably still a good idea.
It provides a bit of a cushion, in case there is a BAD bit in the package.

Cheers,

MM

Just downloaded December updates.
The November KB never came back, but the October Rollup is gone and replaced by the December Quality Rollup KB3207752.
So I will go with that one (in a few days to let it settle down per MM).

Out of curiosity when one installs a monthly KB rollup which contains no telling how many individual updates, what shows up under the Installed Programs window? Just the one main KB rollup number or do the individual updates from within the rollup get shown?

I have installed the latest Windows Update received this morning. All went well & required one restart. No problems so far.

Windows Update only shows the KB number for the whole update. So for the December update it only shows KB3207752 & KB3210131 in Installed Updates on my computer.

However there is another KB number for Microsoft Net Framework 4.6.1 & that is KB3210136, that has been installed with today's updates.

Other than showing those update numbers there is no further indication of just what has been installed.
