ntdlr is missing, stupid me messed up using easybcd now what?

Can I use easybcd to fix the BCD if I pull the HD out of the tower and mount it in a HD dock and access the BCD from another computer?

You could look to see if any boot files are on the HD. You would need to unhide them.

would the bcd and bootmgr from an old image work? Am I making this harder than it should be?

It may or may not, worth a try. would need to be on Vista HD.

I used EasyBCD to recreate the BCD while I had the HD docked in another location....

If you have files on HD now, do a startup repair.

Look at the PW drive map from boot disk again and see if Disk 2 is still marked Active. If so, all of your repair efforts have been going there since you apparently have no System drive now, and Win7 attempts to write the MBR to the first Active partition.

So, right click Disk 2 partition to Modify>set to inactive, OK. Apply.

Now make sure Win7 partition ALONE is marked Active, boot the Win7 DVD Repair console, click through to Recovery Tools list to run Startup Repair up to 3 separate times with reboots. Don't pay any attention to what it tells you, just run it 3 times and report back what happens.

Do you have a Vista DVD or Repair CD? That will be the next approach.
