NVIDIA LAN issue

Hello, i'm very new to dealing with computer problems and have no idea what to do

I just got a new computer today with Windows 7, it has a NVIDIA nForce 10/100/1000 which I guess it uses to connect to the internet, but the computer is acting as if my ethernet cable isn't plugged in. (it is, lol)

When I first plugged in the cable the green light next to the port was flashing as if it was working, and it seems to have stopped after my computer finished doing the things it does when you first start up a new computer, the light does not flash at all now.

When I click on the connections icon it says "no connections are available" and when I do troubleshoot it says "The local area connection is experiencing driver or hardware related problems".

Also its driver is 73.0.6.0 if that helps

as far as things I know...

The computer its self is an Acer Aspire X1301

processor: AMD athlon II x2 215 dual core 2.70 ghz
memory: 4 gig
video card: NVIDIA geforce 9200

network adapter: NVIDIA nforce 10/100/1000

Could you be so kind as to fill out your specifications, it really makes it so much easier to give you advice rather than to constantly ask questions all the time. Most PC retailers won't void your warranty if you open your case but you do have to be careful and know one way or the other.

Using DELL for an example as one who allows you to open your case, the standard procedure would be to ensure every stick of RAM, every component and every connection were tight and secure. We can help if you'll help us help you.

Lisa89 , the link i provided is the driver you require , if possible take the base unit back to the retailer you bought it from and let them repair it for you

According to the Acer site you have a

• Gigabit Ethernet
• Optional WLAN: IEEE 802.11 b/g/draft-N

network card.

Could you possible show a screen shot of your devices from device manager?

Lisa before installing the driver pebbly linked to, open Programs and features (the old Add and Remove Programs) and look for an entry called Nvidia drivers (if Acer didn't screw things up it should be there).

Once found click on it and select Uninstall. That should bring up a window asking whether you want remove all Nvidia drivers (default), select to uninstall the components you choose, and if it is present uninstall the "Nvidia Network Management Tools". restart if asked and then try the connection again.

Ah thanks, I was wondering how I would get drivers on my internet-less computer, i'm downloading it to put on a flash drive at the moment...

Hmm, there doesn't seem to be anything called Nvidia Network management Tools

Good, if that isn't there it eliminates one possible cause (that thing has been causing problems on Nvidia motherboards since they first came out with it years ago). When you run the installer to the drivers pebbly linked to, make sure to select Custom and uncheck the "Network Management Tools".

In my opinion the first thing the Op should do is to uninstall all the bloat-ware that was preinstalled into the Op system, starting with and especially the McAfee Internet suite trial version.

After uninstalling all that you might actually be able to get online at which point you should visit the Windows Update Center to download and install the required updates for your new system.
