HP P7 goes directly to startup repair with no input accepted from mouse or keyboard. Tried F8 at s/up but it ignores it and any other attempts to input anything. Put a repair disc into the drive but no luck there either. Added an SSD about 3 months ago but have had no problems up to this point.

Can't get to the bios to see what my settings are. Pushing Esc (HP P7) during powerup doesn't give me any options I can pick from, it just continues to startup procedure and then to system restore but I can't input anything from the keyboard or the USB mouse.
I got the repair disc from microsoft!

As far as I can see you have 4 USB-ports in the back and 2 in the front - all USB 2.0.
Did you try to use the USB's in the back?
It is the same mouse and Keyboard you are using now as before it worked? What Brand is it?

I actually have 2 usb3's in the back as well as usb2's. Tried all of them and no luck. It's a microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse that have been working flawlessly until this event. I am using a usb mouse since the wireless doesn't seem to be working (keyboard is wireless). I plugged the mouse/KB dongle into my laptop to make sure it's working and it does work! Just can't communicate with the desktop at all...

Two things came up to my mind:
- I was having same problem to enter BIOS on a friend's desktop with M$ wireless keyboard and then I found out that I had to press (Fn + F2) as F2 wasn't the keyboard default.
- The BIOS data could get corrupted. Try to reset (take the small battery out and wait 2 minutes).
I installed a new CMOS battery and tried rebooting with no ability to input anything. Optical drives, mouse, or keyboard....It almost feels like the SSD is not functioning

Detach all drives (SSD, HDD and ODD) and boot.
As it doesn't find any drive you should be able to enter BIOS.
Use a wired keyboard and mouse attached to USB 2.0
That was the key MH07....Once I got in and went through the BIOS settings and 'readjusted' them things started to get better. I reinstalled my SSD and tried to load Windows but told me it couldn't find bootmgr. I checked all my connections and it turns out the connections on the SSD was not installed correctly. After fixing that everything pretty much fell in place. Wireless is working as well....Thanks for your input...that gave me hope in trying to resolve this problem.
P.S. I am still puzzled on how all this got started :huh: but at least now I know how to get the BIOS settings when communication with the PC is non existent. Maybe if I had better knowledge of how the system boots up in the first place it wouldn't be such a mystery
