One week old custom build getting random BSOD when idle but not gaming

One more thing, can the hdd problem be driver related (Intel Rapid Storage Technology)?

One more thing, can the hdd problem be driver related (Intel Rapid Storage Technology)?
Very good question. Intel Rapid storage is problematic in many a cases. But typically it is highly problematic when it is used in SCSI mode. And if it is problematic, it is reflected in the crash dump. As I have not noticed anything related to Rapid storage in the crash dumps, I have given it a benefit of doubt.

In your computer, Intel RST driver is being used as AHCI mode storage controller, so it is comparatively easier to deal with.
Code:
Name Intel(R) 8 Series/C220 Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller
Manufacturer Intel Corporation
Status OK
Driver c:\windows\system32\drivers\iastora.sys (12.0.0.1082, 637.48 KB (652,784 bytes), 1/31/2013 3:20 PM)
Get rid of intel rapid storage. First uninstall it from Control Panel > Programs and Features. Then Uninstall the driver from device manager.

  1. Right click on "my computer" icon and click "manage" on the context menu.
  2. It will open the "computer management" window.
  3. Select "Device Manager" in the left pane, It will list all the existing devices up.
  4. Expand "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" by clicking on the triangle in front of it.
  5. Select one Intel device item under it, right click, uninstall.
  6. Continue the process for all Intel items under "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers"
  7. Now restart the computer. At restart, windows will auto configure the appropriate native system driver.
After a restart, the AHCI storage controller will be msahci.sys, which never fails.

As it appears in your mind, go for it. It definitely will be a worthy try.

Now my HDD is making grinding like noise. I should probably back it up, I will most likely RMA it.

Right now I am wondering whether to RMA the hard disk or just purchase a new 1 TB hard disk to eliminate the risk of this happening again. Apparently the model that I own is prone to failing is it true?

Even if you buy a new one, RMA it. It is new, within warranty, so you have the right to get the replacement.

Good point, I will use the Hitachi replacement for a secondary hard drive. Do you have any HDD brand to recommend in particular?

I personally like Seagate. But you know, Seagate HDDs are also may fail in the same manner.

Hardware is mostly luck. It may run very long, or it may fail shortly.

I think we have done enough of crash dump analysis. We know what he issue is .... and it is the time for action from your part.

Let us know only after the HDD is replaced.

Hi arc, my retailer did a scan for my HDD and the found no errors at all. So I am wondering if it has anything to do with my MOBO or Sata Cable.
